Tribute to Scientists of ISRO It was a great day for all Indians and for us to have such a remarkable achievement when our Mars Shuttle entered in the Mars orbit. The University faculty, staff and students gave a standing ovation to ISRO scientists, on a call from Vice Chancellor on September 25, 2014 at 12:50 pm. Rich tributes were paid to our Indian scientists and all who supported this mission. In this program students, faculty members, registrar and the Vice Chancellor of University were present. The Vice Chancellor gave detailed information regarding the work and success of Scientists at different stages in India s space exploration program. He also lauded them for making India proud. Third N J Yasaswy Memorial Lecture on Buildin Blocks of Outstanding Leadership It was an occasion to pay tribute to Late Shri N. J. Yasaswy, Founder of ICFAI Group. On October 15, 2014 a special live telecast was webcasted from IFHE Hyderabad to the ICFAI University, Raipur. Late Shri Yasaswy had played a significant role in spreading higher education in the country and made remarkable contributions by establishing higher education institutes across India. The live telecast arrangement was with regard to the memorial lecture delivered by Chief Guest Mr. Harish Bhatt, Member, Group Education Council, Tata Sons on the occasion of death anniversary of Late Shri N. J. Yasaswy. Mr Bhatt paid glorious tributes to Shri Yasaswy as he knew him personally and also had chance to attend his lectures. The program started with lightening of the lamp, floral tributes, guest lectures and presidential remarks by Prof. C. H. Hanumantha Rao, Chancellor, IFHE, Hyderabad (Deemed-to-be University). National Unity Day Celebration The University celebrated the birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel on October 31, 2014. This day is observed as National Unity Day. The program started with the flower offerings to Sardar Patel and lightening of the lamp. The faculty members of the University and the Vice Chancellor gave speeches on this occasion during the session, deeds of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and other motivating facts were shared by speakers.

Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Birthday Celebration Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru birthday was celebrated in the University campus on November 14, 2014. Pt Nehru who was fondly called Chacha Nehru was remembered by several students who talked about his contribution in developing the nation in initial days immediately after independence. As country s first Prime Minister he travelled to various nations and laid the foundation of Modern India by setting-up of big steel plants, power plants and water resources projects for faster development of the country. Vice Chancellor while talking about Pt Nehru recalled the crowd of several lakhs of people which he saw during his childhood when Pt Nehru visited his home town for a public meeting. Those days there were no high spped aircraft and air travel was at the best through Dakota propeller aircrafts only which Pt Nehru had used. International Students Day November 17, 2014 was observed as International Students Day. It was an occasion for students to deliberate on issues which concern them most and their country. It was a day to share new ideas and to suggest new ways to move forward. The UGC guidelines had also recommended that students must discuss their ideas for development of the country. The overall program by students was conducted in the guidance of faculty members Shri Dilip Mishra, Dr. Ajit Kumar Dash and Shri Manoranjan Das. The program was followed by student s speeches, debates and sharing of their thoughts. State Level Interschool Cricket Tournament State level interschool cricket tournament was organized from December 3 to 6, 2014. Total 16 teams participated from schools at Kumhari, Charade, Bhilai, Ranjnandgaon and Raipur. Final was played between Railway School, Charoda and Govt. H.S.S. Kumhari. The University awarded trophy to the victorious Kumhari School.

Mahatma Gandhii and Shastriji Jayanti Mahatma Gandhiji and Shastriji jayanti was celebrated by the students and faculty on October 02, 2014. The ceremony started with lighting of lamp and floral tributes to the portrait of Gandhiji and Shastriji. A group of students and faculty talked at length about Gandhi ji s teaching and works and at the same time another group of students and faculty spoke on the achievements of Shastriji. The slogan given by Shastriji Jai Jawan - Jai Kisan was fondly remembered by the students. The significance of this slogan was explained by the speakers. Ahimsa practiced and preached by Gandhi ji was elaborated in detail by a group of faculty. State Level Interschool Competition Leharr-2015 a State level interschool competition was organized at the campus of the University, from February 27-28, 2015. Several students from different schools within the state participated. Dance, Songs, games, quizzes, computer games and other items were part of competition. The competition was quite intense and it really gave a tough time for the students. Each

winner and co-winner were given a prize and a certificate. Others were given a certificate of participation. Students took active interest in visiting University, computer labs, workshops, library and classrooms to familiarize with the University. Celebration of Saraswati Puja The University students have started Saraswati Puja from this academic session. This day is also called Basant Panchami as it falls on fifth day of moon and it was on January 24, 2015. An idol of goddess Saraswati was worshiped by the students where faculty and staff also joined. Basant Panchami marks the end of winter season and beginning of spring season. People also smeared colors on each other welcoming the arrival of Basant.

Celebration of Republic Day 66th Republic Day of India on January 26, 2015 was celebrated at the University. Vice Chancellor hoisted the National Flag on the occasion. Students saluted the flag with national anthem. Several faculty spoke on the salient features of Indian Constitution to make the students aware of their duties towards the nation. Some students had written poems for the occasion which drew praise from faculty and fellow students. A children s program was also organized where nearby school children participated and displayed their talent. Celebration of Fourth Foundation Day of University Fourth Foundation day of the University was celebrated on March 25, 2015 with full joy and enthusiasm. Dr. G. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Bilaspur University was the chief guest of the function. Dr. N.D.R. Chandra, Vice Chancellor, Bastar University, Dr. O. P. Verma, Chairman Chhattisgarh Private Universities Regulatory Commission, and Shri. Pradeep Tandon, Executive Vice Chairman, Jindal Steel and Power, Raipur also graced the occasion as Guests of Honor. The Vice Chancellor presented an overall account on the development of the University since its establishment on March 25, 2011. The hurdles crossed and steady progress made were elaborated. The future course of action on the developments of University was outlined. VC also informed that first batch of students will be gradating in June 2015 and it will be great

achievement for the University in its mission. The Chairman CGPURC recounted the teachings of Ram Krishna Parmahans and Swami Vivekananda. He told how their teachings are still very relevant today and one can derive benefits by practicing them. Shri S. N. Agarwal former chairman CGPURC and Prof B.R Chandrakar, Present Secretary of CGPURC also graced the occasion and interacted closely with faculty, students. The program culminated with a sumptuous lunch served to all attending the program. Science Express Visit by Students Students of the University, visited Science Express Exhibition on October 20, 2014 at Kumhari Railway station for understanding the developments in technologies, biodiversity and other important aspects of science. Students realized that such type of visits are required to enhance their knowledge.
