SIXTH FORM SCHOLARSHIPS Students are able to apply for a range of different Sixth Form Scholarships at Shrewsbury High School. Sixth Form Scholarships fall into the following categories: Academic Art Drama Music Sport Details of the application processes are provided below: ACADEMIC The Sixth Form Academic Scholarships process at Shrewsbury High School requires candidates to sit two scholarship papers: 1. A General Paper This will be a multiple choice paper designed to test general ability. This paper will require no specific preparation and is designed to be accessible for all. The General Paper will be 1 hour in duration. 2. A Subject Paper This will be a paper in the GCSE subject of a candidate s choice. These papers are designed to be accessible to those currently studying GCSE but also challenging to help to identify a candidate s A-level potential. It is normally expected that candidates would do a subject paper in a subject that they are considering taking to A-level. The Subject Paper will be 1 hour in duration. Academic Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the candidate s performance on both papers. SUBJECT PAPERS: Candidates wishing to apply for a Sixth Form Academic Scholarship must elect a subject paper they wish to sit. SIXTH FORM SPECIALIST SCHOLARSHIPS ART, DRAMA, MUSIC, SPORT All applicants are required to sit the general examination paper ART SCHOLARSHIPS The Sixth Form Art Scholarships at Shrewsbury High School are awarded on the basis of the assessment of a portfolio of a student s art work and an interview. The Portfolio Scholarships are awarded based on the strength, quality and potential of the applicant s artwork. We are looking for a range of approaches to the subject and these can be demonstrated through any media, technique or process, although it is important to see references to drawing. We run three Art based courses at A Level, Fine Art, Photography and Textiles. An Art Scholarship will require the candidate to study one of these at A-level. DRAMA SCHOLARSHIPS Sixth Form Drama Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a student s performance diary/cv, an audition (when appropriate) and an interview. MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS Sixth Form Music Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a performance by candidates (when appropriate), the submission of a performance diary and an interview. SPORT SCHOLARSHIPS Sixth Form Sport Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a candidate s sporting CV and an interview. Candidates may also be called for a trial in some cases.
