VINAYAKA MISSION S RESEARCH FOUNDATION, SALEM (Deemed to be University) (Under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956) M.Phil / Ph.D ADMISSIONS BROCHURE April, 2018 Vinayaka Mission s Research Foundation (DU) invites applications for admission in the following Research programmes for the session April, 2018. 1. M.Phil (Full-time) 2. I. GENERAL Please read the following carefully before filling the Application 1.1. Applications are invited for admission to Research programmes offered by Vinayaka Mission s Research Foundation (DU) in the subject areas as indicated in Annexure 1.1 1.2. Candidates admitted to Full-time M.Phil/Ph.D programme should not undertake any assignment/ employment or shall not pursue any other programme of study simultaneously. 1.3 For Ph.D (part time), a minimum compulsory period of 45 days per year of residential attendance has to be put in by the candidate in the respective constituent college of the University. 1.4 The last date for submission of filled in applications is 21.05.2018. 1.5 The University reserves the right to admit or not to admit the candidate into any Research programme. 1.6. FINANCIAL SUPPORT To encourage Full Time Research, VMRF(DU) has initiated Research Fellowships for eligible scholars registered in Full time Ph.D programme. STIPEND DETAILS: Rs. 15, 000 to 25, 000/ month only for Full time Research Scholars. Rs. 25, 000/ month - Candidates passed in GATE/NET(Ayush)/UGC - NET(including JRF)/ UGC CSIR NET (including JRF)SLET//GRE/ CAT/ICMR and any other National Eligibility test. For others Rs. 15, 000/ month based on the merit of their research proposal. The other eligibility criteria like academic, entrance examination, etc will be followed as per the UGC/ University regulations. II. HOW TO APPLY 2.1. Candidates have to submit separate application for M.Phil/Ph.D programmes. 2.2. Candidates are requested to go through the list of vacancies available and approach the Institution and the Department as per their choice. They can discuss with the available Supervisors about doing the Ph.D Programme in the area of the interest and the resources available

2.3. Application can be downloaded from the website www.vinayakamission.com. Duly filled in application has to be forwarded by the Head of the Department and the Head of the Institution, where the candidate intends to do research. 2.4. In addition to the above, the application is to be signed by the employer of the candidate, for applying to part time Ph.D programme. 2.5. The completely filled in application along with a DD of Rs.1,000/- (One thousand only) as application fee (DD drawn in favour of VMU Ph.D a/c payable at Salem) by superscribing on the envelope Application for admission into M.Phil / Ph.D programme in must be sent on or before 21.05.2018 to The Registrar Vinayaka Mission s Research Foundation (DU) Sankari Main Road (NH-47) Ariyanoor, Salem - 636 308,Tamilnadu. On the backside of the Demand Draft the candidate should write his/her Name, Application fee.the fees once remitted by the candidates will not be refunded. 2.7 The University will not take any responsibility for the non-receipt of applications in time. III. ELIGIBILITY 3.1 Candidates for admission to the M.Phil/Ph.D programme should have a Master's degree or a Professional degree declared equivalent to the Master s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body,with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7- point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) 3.2 For Homoeopathy passing in P.G degree exam. 3.3 The candidates having regular full time M.Phil degree or passed AYUSH NET/UGC NET (including JRF)/ UGC CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE teacher fellowship holder or equivalent examinations are exempted from the entrance test ( Part - I), but have to appear for the interview. IV. DURATION OF THE PROGRAMMES 4.1. M.Phil (FT) programme shall be for a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years. 4.2 Ph.D (FT) programme shall be for a minimum of three years (two years for M.Phil Degree holders) and a maximum of six years(four years for M.Phil Degree holders). For Medicine shall be minimum of two years for M. D / M.S./ P. G. / Diploma and three years for candidates with M. Sc. (Medical Subjects) and maximum of 4 and 6 years respectively. 4.3 Ph.D (PT) programme shall be for a minimum of four years (three years for M.Phil Degree holders) and a maximum of Eight years(six years for M.Phil Degree holders). For medicine shall be minimum of 3 years for M. D/ M.S. / P. G./ Diploma and 4 years for candidates with M. Sc.(Medical Subjects) and maximum of 6 and 8 years respectively.

V. DETAILS OF THE ENTRANCE TEST 5.1. Date of Entrance Examination & venue will be intimated after scrutinizing the applications. 5.2. In the Entrance exam for M.Phil/Ph.D the qualifying marks for admission shall be 50%. The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall be of 50% of research methodology and 50% of subject specific. 5.3. The entrance examination will be of two parts Part 1 : 10.00 am 12.00 Noon : Written Examination for a maximum of 100 marks. VI. MCQ of 100 questions of 1 mark each. Questions from the concerned subjects of PG Degree level. Candidates who secure 50% in the written test shall be eligible for interview. Part 2 : 2.00 pm 5.00 pm: Interview (on the same day) Oral presentation by the candidate, either on paper or across the table or on a Board (No power-point presentation) in front of a panel of subject experts for about 10-20 minutes on any topic of candidate s choice, preferably in the chosen area of research. ADMISSION INFORMATION 6.1 Admission shall be based on the marks secured in the Entrance test and Interview, subject to the fulfillment of the eligibility criteria and the rules of reservation. 6.2 Date of intimation of provisional selection: Selected candidates will be intimated immediately. 6.3 Upon receiving the communication, the candidate has to pay the following IN PERSON: a) A Provisional Registration fee. b) First year tuition fee as a DD in favour of VMU Ph.D a/c payable at Salem on or before the date to be indicated. 6.4 Candidates are required to submit the following ORIGINAL documents along with 3 sets of attested photo copies: a) PG Degree Certificate. b) PG Degree Mark sheets. [ UG & PG (or PG Diploma) Registration Certificates with the respective council(s) in the case of the faculties of MD / MDS / MS, in the place of a & b above] c) Transfer Certificate & Migration Certificate from last studied institution. d) No Objection Certificate from present employer, if not furnished already in the Ph.D Application. e) M.Phil Degree Certificate (if applicable) f) M.Phil Degree Mark sheets (if applicable) g) Latest Photo 3 Nos (stamp size) Original documents of c & d will be retained by the University and other originals will be returned to the candidates immediately after verification and after the remittance of the fees. 6.5 After the provisional registration, the candidate shall appear before a Doctoral Committee on the fixed day and submit the Research Proposal of the research to be undertaken.
