SET-UP AND BASIC FUNCTIONS LOGGING INTO ENGRADE 1. Visit www.engrade.com and click Login in the upper right hand of the page. 2. Enter your Username and Password and click Submit. This should have been provided by your Administrator or sent to you via email. If you lose your password, you can always click Lost Password at the bottom of this page to receive a link sent to your email address to reset it. 3. Now you will see a list of your classes. If you are just getting started, you will need to create your first class. 3 R e f e r e n c e & Q u i c k S t a r t G u i d e

ADDING A CLASS 1. Log into Engrade. 2. From your Class List, click the Create New Class button. 3. First, enter a Class Name. If you teach multiple periods in one day, you may want to start the title with P1 or P2 to indicate this. 4. Select the School Year and Grading Period from the drop down menus. 5. Select the Grade Level and Subject Area from the drop down menus. If you do not see your exact Grade Level or Subject Area, just choose the best answer available. 6. 7. Select your Grading Scale of choice. If you choose Custom, you can adjust the grading brackets and the Grade given for each bracket. For example, both of the following grade scales would work on Engrade: You may also select standard A-B-C grades with 10% brackets or display a Percentage grade only by selecting 0-100. If you select Manual, your student s total grade will not be automatically calculated by Engrade. 5 R e f e r e n c e & Q u i c k S t a r t G u i d e

8. Next, you will enter Assignment Categories if desired. You can choose to weight assignments based on their type. For instance, you might make exams worth 50% of the total class grade, and other categories like homework worth less. If you do not want to weight your assignment categories, click the button next to no. To weight your assignment categories, click the yes button near the option. Then, type in the weights you would like to use next to each category. Remember to make sure that the percentages add up to 100%. After you have adjusted the settings to your liking, click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the page. 6 R e f e r e n c e & Q u i c k S t a r t G u i d e

ADDING STUDENTS Choose students from the School Roster to add to your class. If you do not see a student in the School Roster, please see your admin. 1. Use the search to find a student in the School Roster. 2. Click the student s name to add them to your class. 3. To remove a student s name, click the red x on the right side of their name. 4. Click Next to save your class. You can always Add or Remove Students later as necessary. 7 R e f e r e n c e & Q u i c k S t a r t G u i d e

ADDING ASSIGNMENTS 1. From the Gradebook page, click the New Assignment button in the upper left corner of the page: 2. Enter the assignment name, points possible, and due date by typing in the text fields: If you are using assignment categories, you can select the appropriate category for each assignment here as well. 8 R e f e r e n c e & Q u i c k S t a r t G u i d e

3. Clicking the green More Options button will reveal options like Descriptions, Standards labeling, and attachments. To attach a document like a reading list or a PDF, click the down arrow next to the attach bar, and scroll to the bottom of the menu. 4. In the Copy to Classes section, select which of your classes need to complete the assignment, and click submit (screenshot on next page). Your assignment will now automatically appear in the class gradebook and the Calendar. GIVING STUDENTS / PARENTS ACCESS On Engrade, students and parents can log in to check their grades, assignments, and messages. There are two options to give students and parents access. You should select the option that makes most sense for your classroom. Option 1: Send an Email Invitation to each student. 1. Students will receive an email with instructions like these below: Option 2: Print out Flyers for students (or parents): 1. Go to the Students list (see steps 1 and 2 above) and hover over Options. Click Print Flyers 2. Print out the screen by pressing control + P on your keyboard or by selecting print from your web browser s file menu. 3. Cut on the dotted lines and hand out the codes to each student. 4. Students will be able to log in by going to http://www.engrade.com, clicking Sign Up, and then entering their access code. 12 R e f e r e n c e & Q u i c k S t a r t G u i d e

MESSAGING STUDENTS / PARENTS OR OTHER TEACHERS On Engrade, teachers can easily message students and parents. Messages can be sent individually or to a group and they may include file attachments. 1. Login to Engrade. 2. Click Messages in the top menu bar. 3. Click Contacts in the left hand menu bar. 4. Click the names of any students, parents, or teachers you would like to message. A checkmark will appear next to anyone selected. 5. Click the Send Message button. Similar to sending an email, enter a Subject for your message. You may also attach a file if you like. 6. 7. All contacts listed in the To field (screenshot above) will receive your message the next time they log into Engrade. They will also receive an email instructing them to log into Engrade to get a new message. PRINTING PROGRESS REPORTS 1. Log into Engrade. 2. Click on a Class Name. 3. Scroll over the Print button and then select Print Student Reports. 4. Engrade will generate a printable list of Student Progress Reports that display student grades by assignment category and individual assignment scores. MODIFICATIONS ADDING OR MODIFYING STUDENTS When students are added to or removed from your class, modifying your student list is simple. 1. Log into Engrade. 2. Click on a Class Name. 3. 5. To add a student, click the student s name within the School Roster on the left. You can search within the school roster using the Search option. 6. MODIFYING CLASS OR GRADING SETTINGS 1. Log into Engrade. 2. Click on the name of the class you would like to modify. 3. Hover over the Options button and select Grading Settings. 4. Use the Basic Settings tab to modify the class name or messaging settings. 5. Use the Grading Settings tab to modify the class grading scale. 6. Use the Teachers tab to give or remove access for other teachers to the class. ADDING A NEW GRADING PERIOD 16 R e f e r e n c e & Q u i c k S t a r t G u i d e

When a grading period such as a semester ends, you will need to create a new class. 1. Log into Engrade. 2. Click the Copy button next to the class you want to create a new grading period for. 3. Engrade will give you the following options when copying the class to a new grading period. They are all selected by. Copy Class Users Select this option if you want to keep the same access settings for your class. You will most likely want to leave this checked. Copy Student List Select this option if your students are continuing into the next grading period. Copy Assignments Select this option if the assignments you used in your current grading period will be the same in the next grading period. 4. EXPERT FUNCTIONS Engrade has many additional features to help improve communication and provide more online learning opportunities for students. Some of these features include Quizzes, Flashcards, Wikis, AllThink Lessons, and Discipline Tracking. The most up to date information on each of these features is always available here: All Help http://wikis.engrade.com/help Flashcards - http://wikis.engrade.com/help/flashcards Wikis - http://wikis.engrade.com/wiki Quizzes - http://wikis.engrade.com/help/quizzes WIKIS OR LESSON PLANS An Engrade wiki is the easiest way for teachers to share educational information with students and fellow teachers. Each wiki is a web-based document that can contain formatted text, links, images, YouTube videos, and Engrade Flashcards. Wikis can be used to create: Student Study Guides & Notes Class Web Sites Class Syllabi Lesson Plans Full Textbooks Wikis are available online to students 24 hours a day, 7 days and week and can be shared with teachers around the world. CREATING A WIKI 1. Login to Engrade. 2. Hover your mouse over Apps and select Wikis. 3. Click the Create New Wiki button. 4. Enter the basic information for your Wiki such as name and description. 5. Choose a Wiki ID. This ID will be part of the direct link to your Wiki. For example, if you enter Historylessonplan, your wiki link will be: http://wikis.engrade.com/historylessonplan. 6. Each page of your wiki will be divided into sections. Each section will have a title and a body. To add the first section to your wiki, click the Add New Section button. Image Upload or select a previously uploaded image in your account to display. Video Enter the URL of a YouTube or Vimeo video to display. Flashcards Enter the URL of Engrade Flashcards to display. 7. Once you have added a section, you can hover your mouse over that section to reveal several links in the upper right that can be used to edit the section. These include: Edit - Click this to edit the content of that section Delete - Click this to delete the entire section from the page Up - Click this to move the section above the previous section on the page Down - Click this to move the section below the next section on the page 8. Add as many sections as you like to your Wiki. ASSIGNING A WIKI 1. Login to Engrade. 2. Hover over Apps and then select Wikis. 3. Click on a Wiki you would like to assign. 4. Click Assign to Class in the upper left hand corner of the Wiki. 5. Select the classes you would like to view the Wiki and click submit. FLASHCARDS Flashcards are simple study aids that can be viewed by students in three ways. They can be viewed as traditional flashcards, a matching game, or multiple choice. CREATING FLASHCARDS 1. Hover over the Apps menu and select Flashcards. 2. Click Create New Flashcards. 3. Enter a title and description for your flashcard set. 20 R e f e r e n c e & Q u i c k S t a r t G u i d e

4. Enter the best answer for Grade Level and Subject. 5. Enter in the prompts and answers. 6. Click Submit and your flashcards will be created. ASSIGNING FLASHCARDS 1. Hover over the Apps menu and select Flashcards. 2. Hover over the Settings icon and select Assign to Classes. 3. Select the classes you would like to be able to view the flashcards. QUIZZES Engrade quizzes lets you easily give students in your classes online multiple choice quizzes that are automatically scored and can be graded in your gradebook with a single click. CREATING A QUIZ 1. Hover over the Apps menu and select Quizzes. 2. Click Create New Quiz. 3. Enter a title for your quiz. 4. Select a Time Limit if desired. This will restrict the amount of time a student has to complete all of the questions on the quiz. 5. Check Randomize Question Order if you would like the quiz questions to be randomized. 22 R e f e r e n c e & Q u i c k S t a r t G u i d e

6. Click Add New Question to add a new question. Be sure to select the Correct answer on the right hand side, the point count, and whether or not you want to answers randomized. ASSIGNING A QUIZ 1. Hover over the Apps menu and select Quizzes. 2. You will see a list of all the quizzes you have created. 3. Hover over the Settings icon on the right hand side of the quiz you would like to assign and select Assign to Classes. 23 R e f e r e n c e & Q u i c k S t a r t G u i d e

4. Check the classes that you would like to take the quiz (screenshot on next page). 5. Click Submit. 6. Inform your students that they have a quiz on Engrade to take. This may be done via Messaging. When students login, they must click the Quizzes tab and follow the instructions to complete the quiz. They will also see the Quiz on the class Calendar and Assignment list. VIEWING AND SAVING QUIZ SCORES 1. Log into Engrade. 2. Click Quizzes in the left hand side menu. 3. You will see a list of your Quizzes and the status for each. 4. 5. When all students have taken the quiz, or you would like to stop the quiz, click the Close Quiz button. 6. Click Save to Gradebook to automatically add all scores to the gradebook. 25 R e f e r e n c e & Q u i c k S t a r t G u i d e
