Parent Information for Fourth Grade 2017-2018 Fourth Grade Teachers Mrs. Berrong Mrs. Hrubiak Mrs. Escamilla Mrs. Geribo Ms. Scott Schedule See the student schedule attached to this packet. Students need to be in their homeroom as soon as possible, beginning at 8:10 to begin unpacking and getting their supplies ready to begin their academic day. The tardy bell rings at 8:20 and announcements will begin shortly after. Your child s schedule will be kept in his/her notebook and will show which teacher they have for each subject. Attendance Attendance is taken by the homeroom teacher at 8:20. If your child is absent from school, please call the school to notify the front office as early as possible. Any student arriving after 8:20 will be

required to get a tardy slip from the front office before arriving to their homeroom. Conference Time Fourth Grade teachers are available for a conference during 10:20-11:15. Please email us to schedule a time if the need arises. Student Planners The student planner is a very important tool in fourth grade. This planner helps us communicate to you as to what is going on during the school day. Each student is to write what he/she did in each class including any assigned homework. Please initial your child s planner nightly, so we know you are aware of what s happening at school. Planners will be checked by your child s homeroom teacher on a weekly basis. Teacher Phone and Email Phone calls are an additional way we can communicate with you. If you would like to speak on the telephone, please leave a message with the front office and we will return your call within 24 hours. Telephone: (682) 867-2300 You can also communicate with your child s teacher through email. Mrs. Berrong: lberrong@aisd.net Mrs. Hrubiak: brubiak@aisd.net Mrs. Escamilla: nescamil@aisd.net Mrs. Geribo: ageribo@aisd.net Ms. Scott: sscott@aisd.net

Homework Homework is usually given Monday-Thursday. It is rarely given on Friday unless it is a long term project. Please check your child s planner nightly for homework assignments. Homework will be placed in your child s homework pocket divider in his/her binder. Students never turn in homework early. Make-up Work We encourage you to request make-up work for your child when he/she will be absent more than one day. When calling the front office to notify them of your child s absence, just state that you are requesting work. The work will be ready by the end of day for pick up in the fourth grade bin located in the front office. If your child is only absent one day, they may get make-up work when returning to school the following day. Discipline The student planner, emails and phone calls are all ways we communicate regarding student behavior. If a student has been marked five or more times in a particular area in the planner by any teacher within that six-week period, they will receive an N on the report card for citizenship. Seven times in a particular area will result in a U. Lunch Lunches brought to the front office during the school day will be placed on the stage. Below is the lunch schedule: Hrubiak: 11:35-12:05 Berrong: 11:40-12:10 Escamilla: 11:35-12:05 Scott: 11:45-12:15 Geribo: 11:40-12:10

Dress Code Parents will be called to bring appropriate clothing if a student is out of dress code. Please see the Student Code of Conduct handbook. Student Cell Phones and other Devices District policy prohibits the use of telecommunication devices such as cell phones, cameras, Mp3 players, CD players, tablets and video game devices at school and school-related functions/activities during the school day. Students may possess such devices; however, these devices shall not be visible and must remain turned off. Special Events Fourth Grade has two field trips: River Legacy Science Center and Fort Worth Stockyards. More information will be given later in the year regarding these trips. We have four parties: Fall Party, Winter Party, Valentine s Day Party, and End-of year Party. Taste of Texas is an event in November to celebrate our study of Texas and its resources. More information will be given closer to the event. Birthday Celebrations: As we understand how important your child s birthday is, please do not send birthday treats or invitations to school. These can be very distracting and hurt other student s feelings. Every

student s birthday is announced on the announcements and they will receive a birthday book or pencil. Volunteers/Room Representatives The Fourth Grade teachers greatly appreciate any parents who wish to volunteer at Hill. To be a volunteer, a parent must fill out a form to become an approved volunteer (which includes a background check). This is done annually. If you wish to go on any of our field trips, you must complete the volunteer form in advance. Subjects Language Arts: Reading- Spelling- Grammar- Composition- Math: Social Studies: Science:

Fourth Grade Homework Policy 2017-2018 1. Homework will consist of material that has already been discussed in class. 2. Time to complete homework should be no longer than forty minutes on a regular basis. 3. Homework is always checked, but not all grades are recorded. 4. Major projects generally have two weeks notice. 5. Homework is seldom given over weekend-except for projects, book reports or special assignments. 6. Homework is kept in the student s binder until the date it is due, and then the teacher collects it. 7. Homework is expected to be turned in on time. 8. Students are responsible for requesting any make-up work. Parents are encouraged to call the office for work if an absence is greater than one day. The student is expected to complete it within a reasonable length of time, which according the AISD policy is one day for each day missed with an excused absence.

Fourth Grade Grading Policy 2017-2018 1. Approximately 10-12 grades will be recorded in each subject area (Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies) within a six weeks period. 2. Homework is checked and monitored daily. 3. Tests and projects may count twice. 4. Grades on the report card will come from a combination of class work, tests and projects. 5. Please direct any questions or concerns to the classroom teacher.

Fourth Grade Discipline Policy 2017-2018 1. The student will receive a verbal warning and a conversation will take place regarding the misbehavior. 2. After a warning, the teacher will sign the students planner for the day as a message to the parent. 3. Five signatures in any area in a six-weeks will lead to an N for citizenship on the student s report card. 4. Seven signatures in any area in a six-weeks will lead to a U for citizenship on the student s report card. 5. Serious infractions (stealing, fighting, destruction of property, or threats, etc.) may result in removal from classroom and an office referral. 6. Homework is expected to be turned in on time and students will be signed for not having homework. Homework signs do count on the report card.
