Module 3: Grades Weight Students Grades In Canvas, Assignments is an activity that instructors can weight students grades. The assignments are mostly organized into groups by the same type of assignments (such as quizzes, participations, projects, discussions, etc.) for grading purposes. You also could change the order of each group by dragging and dropping assignment groups. Adding Assignments Groups Assignments is an activity that instructors will weight students grades and give students assessment. The Assignments may include: homework, discussions, quizzes, Exam, projects, participations, and etc. Instructors can group the same type of assignments for grading purposes. In the web page of Assignments, instructors and students can view Calendar, Assignment, Syllabus, and Rubrics in one page. The weight of each assignment will reflect automatically in the Grades, and the due date for each assignment will directly link to Calendar. Step : Select the Course Step 2. Click on Assignments in the course navigation Step 3. Click the Add Assignment Group link in the right sidebar to create an assignment group 2 Step 4: Check the Weight the final grade based on assignment groups Step 5: Add a group name for the Assignments, respectively, Quizzes, Homework, Midterm, Field Trip Step 6: Enter the percentages of grades to this Assignment group Step 7: Click on the Add grading rule button, you will have the option to select what method you would like to apply to your course. decide if you would like to drop the lowest score, drop the highest score, or never drop any score for the assignment group Step 8: Click on the Update button to update your assignment groups 3 4 5 6 8 7

Adding A Rubric to An Assignment I : Select Assignments in the course navigation menu 2: Select an assignment from your assignment group 3.: Click on the Edit button 3.2: Add the requirement for the assignment 3.3: Enter the points for this assignment 3.4: Enter the due date of the assignment 3.5: Choose this assignment s Assignment Group 2 3.6: Click on Show Advance Option button, the choice of Grading Type and Submission Type will appear. 3.7: There are four five grading types you can choose for this assignment: percentage, complete/incomplete, points, letter grade, and not graded The submission type choices: no submission, online, on paper, and external tool 3.8: You can choose what groups of students will take the assignment and the due date 3.9: Click on Update Assignment button, an Assignment page with a rubric will appear, then you will have the option to edit the rubric 3.0: Click on the pen tool icon to edit the rubric 3.2 3. 3.3 3.4 3.7 3.5 3.6 3.0 3.8 3.9

Adding A Rubric to An Assignment II 4.: Enter the title of the Rubric 4.2: Click on the View Long Description to type the description of criterion 4.3: Select Add Criterion to add criterion 5: Enter the points for each criterion 6: Click on the border between the Full Markers Ratings and No Markers Ratings to add a new rating description between two ratings 7: Click on the Create Rubric button to update the rubric 4. 5 4.2 4.3 6 7

Outcomes Manage Rubrics I Rubrics is crucial for instructors to communicate the course expectation with students, and it will help students to catch up with the assignments. Instructors also can attach the rubrics to Assignments, Quizzes and Discussions. Step :Click on the Outcomes in the navigation menu Step 2: Click on the Manage Rubrics button Step 3: Click on the Add Rubric button

View Students Grades in Canvas, Grades allows instructors keep track of students performance, and it serves as a communication tool between instructors and students. The Instructors can view students academic history, calculate the weight of students grades, view the assignment details, link to SpeedGrader, send messages to students, set students curve grade, view students grades by percentage, etc. : Click on the Grades in the global navigation menu 2: Select the Course, it will show you students name list, assignment, and grades. 3.: You will see the students name list on the left-hand column 3.2: You can view student s ID 3.3: You can view each assignment 3.4: You can search student s grade by typing their name or ID 3.5: You can view student s total percentage of grade 3. 3.2 2 3.3 3.4 3.5

Grades Overview Click on the drop down menu from the Gear icon, instructors are able to. view grading history 2. download score, 3. upload scores 4. set group weights 5. hide students name 6. arrange columns by due dates 7. treat ungraded as 0 s 8. show concluded enrollment 8 9. Click on the Arrow icon, instructors can view Assignment Details, SpeedGrader, Message Students, Set Default Grade, Curve Grades, or Mute Assignment 9

Print Students Grades Step : Click on the drop down menu to view Assignment Details, SpeedGrader, Message Students, Set Default Grade, Curve Grades, or Mute Assignment Step 2: Click on the students name, You will see the student s grades details 2 Step 3: click on the print grade button on the right to Print Grade for students to see the printing report 3

Create a New Quiz I Instructors can make a quiz in Canvas. Step. Click the Quizzes in the navigation menu Step 2. Click on the Create a New Quiz button Step 3.: Name the Quiz Step 3.2: Choose the Settings button Step 3.3: Input Quiz Instructions Step 3.4: Choose the Quiz Type Practice Quiz, Graded Quiz, Graded Survey, Ungraded Survey Step 3.5: Choose the assignment group 2 3.2 3. 3.3 3.4 3.5

SpeedGrader I The SpeedGrader will save you lots of time to grade and benefit you to provide the quality of feedback to students. Once students submit their assignment, you will see their submission on your Canvas homepage s To Do list, too. Step : Select the Course in the global navigation Step 2: Click the Grade tab in the navigation menu Step 3: Move your cursor to the assignment that you are going to grade 2 Step 4: You will see an arrow icon.
