To allow the OCRE students in the spring of their first year to enroll either GEOL 106 or BIOL 112. The OCRE students are interested in physical resources as well as living resources. We recommend the change to allow the OCRE students interested in physical resources in the spring of their first year to enroll in GEOL 106. 2. To change the first math requirement to math 10 (previously 11) or math 151. Math 10 is a better preparation and is now the prerequisite for math 12. BS-OCRE: Ocean and Coastal Resources - BS Page 3 of 3 Either MATH 151, which is preferred for a science oriented career path, or MATH 10 may be taken. For the second math course, either MATH 152 or MATH 12 may be selected. Only one of the following can be applied to the requirements for a degree: MATH 151 and MATH 12. Depending upon the math sequence selected, the number of credit hours will vary by 1 or 2 credits. The total number of hours for the degree must still be at least 120, so the difference can be made up with professional electives, MARS 8, MARS 91 or MARS 85. 2 Indicates required courses in the Ocean and Coastal Resources major. These courses will be used to compute the major GPR. Also, if any upper level MARS or OCNG elective courses are taken, they will be used in the major GPR. 3 The total hours may be increased if the student is required to take remedial math, remedial English, foreign language or International and Cultural Diversity courses. Recommended professional electives include, but are not limited to: CHEM 316, CHEM 318, COMM 9, MARA 70, MARB 320, MARB 30, MARB 35, MARB 350,MARB 23, MARB 38, MARB 5, MARS 305, MARS 306, MARS 330, MARS 370/GEOG 370, MARS 10, MARS 12, MARS 15, MARS 23, MARS 35, MARS 0, MARS 8, MARS 91 or MARS 89. 5 Field Experience may also be met with MARB 300 plus one credit hour of a field oriented lab course. 6 Designated writing intensive course. If both MARS 30 and MARS 31 are taken, one can be used as a professional elective.
