APPLICATION INFORMATION The College uses the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) to make it easier for applicants to apply to the College. VMCAS, established by the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, is a centralized application service that provides for the collection, processing, verification, and distribution of applicant data to participating colleges. VMCAS is not involved in the admissions decisions. Admissions decisions are the prerogative of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Deadline for Applications: Completed applications must be submitted online to VMCAS no later than September 15, 2018. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation and all college transcripts must be submitted for the application to be considered complete. Recommendation Letters: It is the applicant s responsibility to request a minimum of three (3) VMCAS Evaluation Forms and Letters of Recommendation to be submitted electronically. Three letters of recommendation are preferred; six (6) letters of recommendation will be the maximum number of evaluations accepted. Transcripts: Requesting transcripts be sent to VMCAS is also the responsibility of the applicant. These transcripts must be official copies, in sealed envelopes, from appropriate college/university registrars, for all post-secondary institutions that you have attended. These transcripts must include ALL coursework completed through Spring 2018. Transcripts must be sent directly to VMCAS with the exception of Summer 2018 through Spring 2019 transcripts, which are sent to the UT College of Veterinary Medicine upon completion of courses. A NON-RESIDENT APPLICANT MUST HAVE A MINIMUM CUMULATIVE GRADE POINT AVERAGE OF 3.2 ON A 4.0 SCALE FOR HIS/HER APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED. 2 Rev. 7/19/2018

Graduate Record Exam (GRE): The GRE General Test results are required for admission applications. GRE College Code: 2104 Your scores should be sent to VMCAS in accordance with their instructions. Scores must be received by September 15, 2018, in order to be considered. We suggest that you complete your GRE exam by August 1 to assure timely receipt of your results. Sending scores to the University of Tennessee Graduate School will not get the scores to the College of Veterinary Medicine. You must specify College Code 2104. Deadline for the College to receive GRE scores is September 15, 2018. For applicants planning to matriculate in the College in August 2018 (September 15, 2018 applications), results of GRE tests taken prior to December 31, 2014, will not be accepted. Disadvantaged/Hardship Statement: Optional Applications with valid Disadvantaged/Hardship Statements will be reviewed if below the academic benchmark to assess if further review is appropriate based on conditions of hardship. Examples of hardships could include, but are not limited to, the items listed below: Economic Opportunities Educational Opportunities Cultural Background Discrimination based on race, religion, gender, etc. Physical Disabilities Family Challenges Other Mitigating Circumstances SELECTION PROCEDURE Applications are accepted only from U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States. International students must complete the TOEFL in order to be considered for 2019. TOEFL score and international student requirements can be found at http://international.utk.edu. 3 Rev. 7/19/2018

Selection of applicants is a three-phase process and is normally completed by the end of January. Phase Two Objective A point value is derived from evaluation of academic transcripts and the GRE scores. Phase One Subjective A point value is derived from faculty evaluation of complete application and disadvantaged/hardship statement. Evaluation of nonacademic attributes of those individuals selected after phases one and two. Not all applicants will be invited for personal interview. Phase Three PHASE ONE EVALUATION: Academic Review GPA Calculations In all categories, grade point average (GPA) is calculated on all course work attempted, including repeated courses. Overall GPA All coursework including graduate work. GPA X 6 All Math and Sciences GPA All math and sciences courses, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Life and Animal Sciences. GPA x 12 Recent UG GPA The most recent 45 hours of undergraduate course work. Partial semesters and quarters will be used to reach 45 hours. GPA x 6 4 Rev. 7/19/2018

Credit Hour Calculations Total number of semester hours successfully completed at the time of application are assigned points as follows: Over 94 = 1 Over 114 = 4 Over 100 = 2 Over 120 = 5 Over 107 = 3 Over 127 = 6 GRE Score Conversion Scores from the verbal, quantitative, and analytical sections of the GRE will be evaluated. A maximum of 25 points will be added to each applicant s academic evaluation based on performance on each section of the GRE. For the verbal and quantitative sections, a maximum of 10 points for each section may be earned. For the analytical section, up to 5 points may be earned for scores of 3.0 or greater. While all scores are accepted, GRE scores should be above the 50 th percentile. Verbal Scoring 153 = 0.50 154 = 1.00 155 = 1.50 156 = 2.00 Quantitative Scoring 144 = 0.25 145 = 0.50 146 = 1.00 147 = 1.50 Written/Analytical Scoring 3.0 = 0.50 3.5 = 1.00 4.0 = 1.50 4.5 = 2.00 The maximum number of points an applicant can earn on the Academic profile calculation is 127. The lowest Academic profile score with which an applicant will be interviewed may vary from year to year depending on the number of applicants to be admitted and the qualifications of the applicant pool, and is determined annually by the Student Selection Committee. 5 Rev. 7/19/2018

PHASE TWO EVALUATION: Holistic Packet Review Applications are reviewed by a team of three faculty members. The maximum points an applicant can achieve for Phase Two is 100. Complete applications will be assigned to faculty members and scored based on the criteria listed below: Academic Credentials Veterinary Experiences Letters of Reference Personal Statement Written Communication Skills Supplemental Disadvantaged/Hardship Statement Personal Qualities (community service, leadership, work history, interest area, cultural competency, and diversity) PHASE THREE EVALUATION: Interview The third phase of the selection process is the non-academic evaluation and interview. Each applicant selected for the Phase Three Evaluation will be interviewed during a single meeting with members of the College faculty. Each interview team member scores the applicant independently. An interviewed applicant may earn a maximum of 100 points for Phase Three that is normalized to 100%. Criteria that interviewers may evaluate include, but are not limited to, the following: Motivation Maturity Communication Skills Experience with Animals Knowledge of the Veterinary Profession Personal Qualities Leadership Potential Personal Statement Demonstration of Critical Thinking Skills Potential to Contribute to the Profession Total Score Calculations The Academic Review (Phase One) constitutes 33.4% of the total score. The Holistic Packet Review and Interview (Phases Two and Three) will each count 33.3% of the total score. Phase One Score x.334 = Phase One Adjusted Score Phase Two Score x.333 = Phase Two Adjusted Score Phase Three Score x.333 = Phase Three Adjusted Score Total Adjusted Score 6 Rev. 7/19/2018
