hanbschool.org Messenger August 29, 2018 Issue 1 School News... The 2018 2019 school theme which guides us: On this rock I will build my church. (Matthew 16:18) We are so excited to welcome our 430+ students to another year at Holy Apostles School! We especially want to welcome our new families to our community. Our teachers are excited to get to know your children, and we thank you once again for being part of our community. We look forward to seeing you tonight, Wednesday, August 29th, at Parent in the Classroom Night. Remember this "parents only" event is an opportunity for you to meet with teachers and learn about what your child or children will experience during the school year. 5:30-6:00 4K - 5th Gr in Homeroom 6:00-6:30 4K - 5th Gr in Homeroom 6:30-6:40 ALL PARENTS IN CHURCH for a welcome from Mrs. Lee 6:45-8:30 Middle School Parents in Classrooms Thank you for taking time for Benchmark Testing last week. Benchmark testing is a great way for teachers to meet their students, hear them read, and see their writing. This testing has cut several days from the teacher s schedule and given them a head start so they can be up and running sooner. Thank you to those who could attend Monday s parent meeting. It was great to see so many parents from all grade levels there. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and concerns, as well as your support for our school community. I understand this is a difficult topic for everyone, but it is clear that you care deeply for our school community. Thank you also to the New Berlin Police Department for sending Detective Clevenstine and Sergeant Park to our meeting. We appreciate them sharing their insight and support. As they mentioned on Monday night, if you have any comments or concerns to report, please contact them at 262-782-6640. Also, please remember if you would like to reach out to Catholic Charities, please contact: 414-771-2881. I understand there are some very important next steps to take regarding ongoing safety and education about the issue. There were many suggestions shared which we will be considering as next steps are determined. Some may require work with the Archdiocese, while others are things specific to our school. As we potentially learn of new information, we hope to continue a culture of openness, peace, and healing. We are looking forward to seeing you tonight to focus on our students, classroom curriculum, and the great year ahead of us. Issue 1 Page 2 More school news... Featured Teacher: Welcome Mrs. Lee! Thank you for all of your notes and visits. I have loved stopping by classrooms this week and meeting your children! One of my favorite parts of being a principal is interacting with the kids. I have always loved the learning process and seeing great teachers in action. Speaking of teachers, I have been truly impressed with ours, and their enthusiasm and love for HA. One of the first things that struck me about my time here is the strong sense of family and community. I am proud to be your new principal and look forward to many years of getting to know you. We are grateful to have received many applicants for the P.E. & 4th grade teacher positions. We have established an interview team and are working through the process. We will be sure to update you as we have more information. Thank you! Dear Parents of Students with Allergies, On September 7th there will be an all school assembly honoring the 125th birthday of Holy Apostles School. In honor of this special event, we will be celebrating with cupcakes for each of our students. The ingredient list for the cupcake is across. If your child has allergies to any of the ingredients in the cupcake, we will have a Rice Krispy treat for them as a substitution OR you are welcome to send another treat from home for your child to enjoy. If your child will not be eating the cupcake, please email BOTH his/her teacher and myself with the plan for your child by Tuesday, September 4th either they will have the Rice Krispy treat OR you will be sending in a personal own treat. Thank you for giving this your immediate attention. Sincerely, Madeline Lamphear (mlamphear@hanb.org) Join us for this year s Soles for Catholic Education Walk on Saturday, October 20th! Even if you aren t sure you can walk, please Register FREE by 9/25 and you will receive a t-shirt! Remember that all money raised will STAY AT HOLY APOSTLES SCHOOL and will be used to help support our families. We already have many families & teachers committed to walking. Let s show our HA pride and walk together!

Please note that due to the 125th Anniversary Birthday Party, we are changing the date of the August & September Birthday Table to Thursday, September 6th. We have a lot of people to thank: Our Home & School Association (HSA) supports the spiritual and educational mission of Holy Apostles School. We financially assist school needs and provide adult, student, and family activities. For a full description of the role of the HSA, visit our website & like us on Facebook! We would like to thank the 3K-5K grade families who attended the 3K, 4K & 5K Back to School Picnic last week! We had over 250 attendees! It was a great way to break in our new playground, as well as see and meet all the excited kids and families as they join our HA family! Thank you also to those that attended Saturday s Back to School Tailgate! What an amazing way to start out the new school year. It was great to see old friends and to meet some new ones too! A special thanks to Paul Lange for the amazing grill and cooler, and to ALL those that helped make this event so great. We hope everyone joins us at our next adult social. Watch the Messenger for details! Thank you from our Home & School Family Friendly Committee for attending our Back to School Coffee! We hope you enjoyed catching up or meeting new parents and friends as we celebrated the beginning of a new school year. Thank you for your Scrip orders on the first day back to school! Our order total was just over $10,000. Let s keep this momentum going. Normally orders are placed every Monday, but due to Labor Day, the next order date will be TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th. Orders are due in the office by 8:00 am. Remember, we also have standing orders for those families who would like to order the same cards every week. Contact Inger at ingerosbrg@aol.com to be added to the list. You can always add cards to your standing order if you need something extra in addition to your regular order. Thanks for shopping with Scrip!
