Intensive English Program Program Description: The Intensive English Program is designed for those who would like to study English for academic purposes. This program is a rigorous English program for students who want to study academic English. Students may apply for more than one semester at a time. During the fall and spring semesters, classes are conducted 20 hours per week. During the summer semester, classes are conducted 28 hours per week. Instruction focuses on the areas of Reading/Vocabulary, Writing/Grammar, Oral Communication, and TOEFL preparation. Upon arrival to the program, students may be placed in any of the 6 levels of English study currently offered based on results of a placement test: Foundation, Beginner, High Beginner, Intermediate, High Intermediate, and Advanced. Classes are average-sized (approximately 15 students), held on both the main campus and downtown campus in the morning and afternoon, and are conducted by experienced instructors who hold M.A. degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language. Students will receive evaluations of their progress at mid-term and at the end of the semester. These evaluations are based upon class participation, homework, quizzes, tests, reports, and effort. Attendance is mandatory for enrolled students, as per the University of Texas at San Antonio and the Department of Homeland Security regulations. D. Financial Guarantee Enrollment in the Intensive English Program requires that you have sufficient funds to cover your educational and living expenses during your studies. Refunds for Withdrawals Withdrawing is the formal discontinuance of a student s enrollment from the program and involves the student dropping all of the classes. Depending on the time of the withdrawal, a student may be entitled to a refund of some part of the tuition and fees. Refunds of tuition and fees paid by a sponsor, donor, or scholarship will be refunded to the source rather than directly to the student who has withdrawn. Students who are academically withdrawn for receiving a grade point average below a 3.0 for Excessive absences or violating university rules will not be issued a refund. University of Texas at San Antonio - International Student Services Affidavit of Financial Support for the Intensive English Program *You must submit this completed form AND your financial support documentation for the issuance of a Form I-20.* By law all international students seeking the F-1 visa are required to show sufficient funds to cover expenses for the planned length of study and for any dependents that will stay with them in the United States. Barring unforeseen circumstances, these funds must be available throughout the course of student s studies. In order to meet this requirement, all F-1 students must submit the following documents: 1) Completed Affidavit of Financial Support with all appropriate signatures. 2) Proof of financial support (see categories and requirements below). ESTIMATE OF EXPENSES Please refer to page 3 of the application for the Approximate Costs per Semester. Student fees may vary depending on the length of their individual program of study (one semester vs. three semesters). Living expenses are estimated based on shared on-campus housing including a meal plan. All international F & J visa students are required to have health insurance. Personal and/or family savings (salary/ income information is not acceptable): All documentation not in English must be submitted with an accompanying translation into English by a licensed translator. o Official bank letter: Financial statements must be on official bank letterhead with the name of the account holder, account number, type of currency, final balance in the account, and the date of issue. The letter must have been issued within the last 6 months; older letters will not be accepted. o Bank account statements: Bank statement must be official and contain the name of the account holder, account number, type of currency, final balance in the account. The 3 most recent bank statements must be submitted and cannot be older than 6 months. (Example: You are admitted in May; you should provide bank statements for February, March, and April). o Investment Accounts: Funding sources must be able to be easily withdrawn. Types of acceptable funding sources include stocks, and investment accounts.
