Required Credits For Graduation Class Of 2020 To earn a diploma a student must successfully complete 22 credits, meet requirements of the Ohio State Tests, and meet the following specific requirements: CORE CLASSES English / Language Arts 4 credits Mathematics 4 credits Math courses must be taken in grades 9-12 at MHS. Must include 1 credit of Algebra II, or the equivalent of Algebra II. Science 3 credits Must include 1 credit of Physical Sciences, 1 credit of Life Sciences, and 1 credit of advanced study. Social Studies 3 credits (includes 1 credit of U.S. Studies, 1 credit of American Government, and 1 credit of Social Studies 9).

Foreign Language Are you ready? Are you receiving a B or better in your English class? Why not transition to high school, and take foreign language in your Sophomore year? If you start foreign language as a Sophomore, you can still earn 3 credits of foreign language. Foreign Language IS NOT required for graduation.

Ohio State Testing Requirements NEW GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS WILL TAKE EFFECT FOR THE CLASS OF 2018 and beyond Students will be required to take seven, end-of-course exams in: English 9, English 10, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, American History, and American Government. Students can earn from 1-5 points for each exam, based on their performance. 5 = Advanced 2 = Basic 4 = Accelerated 1 = Limited 3 = Proficient Students must earn a total of eighteen graduation points from the seven, end-of-course exams to meet graduation requirements and be eligible for a diploma. A minimum of the following points must be earned in each subject area: English 4 points Math 4 points Science and Social Studies 6 points Students who earned high school credit in any of the above courses before July 1, 2014 will receive a score that corresponds to their final grade; in place of the end-of-course exam. A = 5 points D = 2 points B = 4 points Other = 1 point C = 3 points

Ohio State Testing Requirements Students may choose to retake an exam at any time during the designated testing windows. Students who have not earned the required number of graduation points, can still meet the requirements for a diploma if they earn a remediation free score on a national college admission test or earn an approved industry recognized credential. The Ohio Dept. of Education is currently in the process of selecting the college admissions test and industry credential assessment.

Important Information For Athletes Students who plan on participating in school sports should be aware of the Athletic Eligibility Requirements. See your coach for details. The grades you earn for the nine-weeks BEFORE your sport begins, will determine if you are eligible to participate in the upcoming sports season.

NCAA CLEARINGHOUSE APPROVED CORE COURSES AT M.H.S.

All classes offered at MHS are described in this newspaper. Be sure to thoroughly read and consult your issue of the VIKING VOYAGE.

Student Registration Every student must be scheduled for a full day. Every student must list and prioritize courses; enough to equal 7 credits. If you select a P.E. class, credits will equal 6.75. These selections will be considered when resolving conflicts in scheduling your requests. Copies of your full-year schedule will be available in August. Students will receive their schedule on August 8, 2016 at the Freshman Orientation (more details to come in the spring from MMS). If you have a scheduling error, you will need to contact your counselor immediately.

Physical Education Options The State of Ohio requires ½ credit in Physical Education. Miamisburg High School offers the following options for completing the Physical Education graduation requirement. Physical Education Waiver Miamisburg High School offers a Physical Education Waiver as an alternate way to satisfy the Physical Education graduation requirement. Students who participate in a Miamisburg High School Sanctioned Sport, Marching Band or Color Guard may request a Physical Education (P.E.) Waiver credit. Students will select pphysical Education Waiver I / pphysical Education Waiver II on their course selection sheets if they would like to complete a P.E. Waiver. DO NOT sign up for P.E. class on your scheduling sheet if you are completing a P.E. waiver.

Physical Education Flex Credit Miamisburg High School offers a Physical Education Flex Credit as an alternate way to satisfy the Physical Education graduation requirement. Students who participate in an activity or sport outside of MHS may apply. Students must submit an application for approval prior to beginning the activity.
