Course Outline This Foundation Certificate Course is a level 3 qualification and is accredited by the CIM. Duration One week in London (London University campus) Monday to Friday 10.00 16.00 Each day you ll balance learning in the classroom with site visits at some of London s most prestigious (and often hidden) venues and event agencies. Delivered by our team of experts you will not only learn the core skills but also hear first hand stories and tips about the key elements of the events business. This is a comprehensive introduction and foundation to event management. One week comprehensive introduction to event management Your time Our approach is that you should immerse yourself in as many practical event experiences as possible to seal in the learning on the course. As a result, this course has been structured to give you free time to experience the best of London s events world. This is not a compulsory part of the course but we hope that by diving into as many events as possible you will grow your confidence and experience alongside the outcomes developed on the course.

How we teach We believe in preparing our students for the real world. Our aim is for every student to be work-ready by the end of their course. Sadly, our experience is that most event management training courses fails to equip students with the practical skills, knowledge and confidence needed to enter the workplace. By relying on theory and classroom-based learning, they fail to provide the practical, hands-on experience that is needed and therefore students leave unable to show an employer that they can do the job. We use involvement and our up to date experience to give you the confidence to go out there and create a meaningful career. Practical Learning We pride ourselves on creating powerful learning experiences that give you the best chance of gaining the skills that enable you to build a fulfilling career. We are passionate, not just about the content of the courses we offer, but also about the way it is delivered and experienced. We use high levels of involvement to create powerful learning experiences, using techniques that have been developed in both the corporate and academic fields with global organisations, such as AXA University, GSK Academy and the CIM. Expert Lecturers Our lectures are delivered by highly experienced event professionals who come from all areas of the industry and share our commitment to delivering the best event training available. These industry practitioners are up to date with the latest developments, changes and opportunities within the event world. They bring the latest thinking and developments, as well as their expansive career experiences and stories to share. Hands on We create experiences to involve students in building a practical understanding of the content we teach. What better way to learn about venue management than visiting a venue? We will be going back-stage to key London sites (from The Dorchester to Wimbledon, from the O2 to The Tower) to see and understand how they operate their events. Practical The power of events is in the strength of the physical and emotional experiences that they create. Think festivals, concerts, weddings, parties, product launches, exhibitions and conferences. We know that the knowledge and insights needed to create engaging live experiences comes from doing it, making mistakes and doing it again, not listening to someone telling you how to do it. 6

Working with Others Our courses are designed to give our students the knowledge, confidence and skills to be work-ready when they leave us and enter the industry. Team work is a hugely important skill of an event manager. To prepare you, we ask you to work within a group on a project. We like to see this as a safe environment where you can challenge yourself and develop your skills. Resources Throughout the week you will be provided with all the resources you need to support your learning. Templates and support documents covering everything from production schedules, venue checklists, budget planning and health and safety assessments. These are valuable documents that you can use at your own events. Volunteering Networking is absolutely key in the events industry. Through volunteering, you can tap into this network, whilst also learning more about yourself, your skills and what type of environment you would like to work in. We will give you opportunities for volunteering during and after your course. Our Alumni network means that even when you ve finished your course, we will continue to share these opportunities with you. We know from experience that voluntary positions can lead to paid jobs and having the chance to showcase your skills and enthusiasm to potential employers is invaluable. Don t underestimate the value of voluntary experience on your CV too! I really don t think I d be where I am now and working for Rhubarb if I hadn t done the course at Event Academy Holly Minns Rhubarb 7

Assessment Your final grade is made up of the following: 30% Project 70% Exam The Project Our live projects are a chance to respond to a real client brief set by a well-known organisation and their real-life business project that needs to be delivered. The Exam A 1.5 hour exam forms the majority of your final grade. We know that exams aren t everyone s cup of tea. That s why your exam with be preceded with an Exam Revision session to help you recap your learning throughout the week. There are no trick questions; the exam has a practical focus to help show what you have learned. Working as part of a team, you will develop creative, marketing and events solutions to produce a written project and pitch your ideas back to the client. Recent clients have included the Hilton Group, UNICEF, Everything Everywhere (EE), Pret a Manger and The British Army. You are required to complete and submit a series of template documents which will form your project. This will include: the event budget, creative overview, function sheet, event timeline, marketing plan, celebrity management plan, fundraising plan, sponsorship proposal, eco-friendly initiatives, risk assessment, staffing rota. 8

Once you re in, you re in. How we ll Support You We are devoted to providing the best experience for our students.
