Through his intercession, may we be filled with a desire to see the face of Christ. In whom we meet and spread the light of faith in a society darkened by faithlessness. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. AMEN Dear Parents, How quickly another term passes and how dedicated the children have been towards their studies. The Open Night / Book Fair was another outstanding success. I wish to thank all of the families for attending this very important event. I would also like to acknowledge the work of the staff of the school who spent hours in preparation and co-ordination. It simply doesn't just happen but takes a lot of work. We are so blessed to have such a dedicated and hardworking staff here at St. Andrew's. Maybe you could consider every so often telling them that? Congratulations, but tinged with sadness, is extended to Mrs. Julie Johnson, Our Pre- Primary Teaching Assistant who will be leaving us at the end of the term. Julie has been studying and will undertake a new positon in the counselling field. We will miss Julie s happy, smiling face around our school, and especially in Pre-Primary, but wish her every success for the future. We welcome Mrs. Kazmierczak, who will assume the Teaching Assistant position in Pre- Primary until the end of the year. Mrs. Kazmierczak, has completed a significant amount of relief work at our school this year. A reminder that this Friday 25 th September (tomorrow) is a Pupil Free Day. I hope that all families have a safe and wonderful holiday and we look forward to seeing you all on TUESDAY 13 th October wearing your summer school uniform. A list of Term IV Dates accompanies this newsletter. Please place them in your diaries and in a prominent position. The dates are correct at the time of printing this newsletter. If any unavoidable changes occur, we will advise families through the school newsletter. NOTICE OF AGM BOTH SCHOOL BOARD AND PARENTS AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION As per the constitution of both the Parents and Friends Association and School Board notice is hereby provided that the AGM for both of these school organisations will be conducted on Wednesday 25 th November in the School Hall.

NAPLAN RESULTS Parents who have children in either Years 3 or 5 will receive their child's NAPLAN results. These were sent home with today's newsletter. They are sent home in conjunction with all other catholic schools within our region. I hope that you enjoy the read! NAPLAN THE FUTURE Parents of younger students, within our school, should be aware that from 2017 an implementation period will be undertaken, whereby NAPLAN testing will be undertaken electronically. This is something new and challenging for all concerned at our school. STAFF CHANGE OF GRADES At this time of the year many parents and children are interested in their teachers and what is happening for the following year. As yet there has been no formal decision as to which staff member will be teaching which grade in 2016. However, all teachers in schools are requested to change grades, every few years, as this is a part of their professionalism. In small schools, like our own, this means that some children may have a teacher that they have had in previous years. This is unavoidable and most children look forward to the excitement of the new grade, (so does the teacher). If any parent has any concerns, they are welcome to place this in writing to Mr. Fontaine. STUDENT COUNCIL REPORT At the recent student council meeting, the following agenda items were proposed and discussed. I personally, thank all of the Year 6 students for their innovation and enthusiasm as they continue to join in the community to discuss, evaluate and generate new ideas and initiatives at St. Andrew s. Student Ministries. A re-vamp of student ministries in 2016, with defined roles and the possibility for keeping the ministry for the year or swapping ministries during the year. A token reward system. Development of a Year 6 administered token reward system for use by the students in 2016. By using factions to collect the tokens, allowing the Year 6 students to take a much more effective leadership approach within the school. To also help, support and positively reward the younger students for positive behaviors. Guidelines will be set and administered with Teacher assistance. BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). Following the success of these one off days this year, allowing the students in Years 5 and 6 in 2016 to bring to school their own personal IPad or tablet, for purely educational usage. As discussed, there will be a number of considerations before this can take place. Include a policy for usage, storage and responsibilities. With the assistance of Mrs. Phillips, introducing this concept, a letter will be sent home to parents outlining strict procedural guidelines and usage. A number of other schools in our area, have also adopted this approach. The BYOD will not be compulsory, but families who choose not to use this will still have access, as normal, to the school s IT devices, but not on a one to one basis. (No change from the current usage system already in operation at the school.) Moving forward with technology at our school as a tool not as a teacher! Interschool Sports Shirts. A number of students, who competed at the Interschool Cross Country, and the Interschool Basketball Carnival, as examples, commented on the appearance of other schools and the possible use of an interschool running / athletic top. (in our St. Andrew s School Colours) Students will have the opportunity to purchase such a top, from the school uniform shop but it will be a NON COMPULSORY TEAM! Cost must be kept to a minimum for the usage and Mrs. Jaschinsky, our Uniform Shop coordinator will investigate this further for 2016. Thank you once again to our Wonderful Year 6 students! God Bless Mr. Sam Fontaine Principal

VISION STATEMENT St Andrew s CPS offers an education that acknowledges, respects and nurtures the uniqueness of each person. Within a framework of Catholic values and teamwork, the students will be challenged and supported to recognise their gifts and develop their potential as they learn and contribute to their community.
