You can choose your gender, skin tone, hair style, hair color, and scrub color. Next, click Start to enter the program.

Lobby This is your landing page that welcomes you to Pearson General Hospital for Medical Terminology Interactive. Click on the elevator control icon at the bottom of the page, the elevator door, or the Menu command in the upper left to move to floors of the hospital, which correspond to chapters in the book.

Hallway You ll start off in the hallway of your chosen floor. (The topic/chapter/floor you have chosen will appear on the sign located on the top left of the screen.) There are three rooms full of student content to choose from: Examination, Laboratory, and Records.

There s also a link to the ER, with another student activity.

Click on the door to enter the room, or click on the icons at the bottom of the screen. Clip board and Stethoscope represents the Examination Room Microscope represents the Laboratory File folder represents the Records Room.

You may also click on the Elevator control icon at any time to move yourself to a different floor, or use the Menu link in the upper left corner to choose a chapter/floor.

Examination Room Here you ll find a variety of quizzing games. Mouse over the images in the room. When an image turns purple, you can click to try out the game.

Here s a brief description of the games in the Examination Room: Word Surgery (surgical instrument stand) This game helps you understand the construction/deconstruction of medical terms. Instructions: 1. First, use your mouse as a scalpel to deconstruct the medical term at the top of the screen. Simply highlight the appropriate letters and drag them into each tray. IMPORTANT NOTE: You do not need to fill each tray. Only fill the trays you need. Reset All to try the word again. 2. Then, select the correct meanings using the multiple choice buttons below each word part. 3. Click Check Answer to tabulate your total score for each word. Beat the Clock (clock on the wall) This quiz game challenges you to think on your feet! Instructions: 1. This is a fill-in-the-blank game played in rounds. 2. You have 90 seconds to answer 5 questions in the first round. Each subsequent round is 15 seconds faster. 3. You can make multiple guesses for each question, but you must answer all questions correctly to proceed to the next round. Labeling (anatomical wall chart) This game asks users to click and drag labels correctly onto an anatomical image.

Speedway (bed/gurney) This racing game challenges you to steer your way to correct answers using the racing vehicle of your choice. You can choose to be an ambulance, a gurney, a wheel chair, or a sports car. You ll see how quickly you can race to 15 correct answers. Each correct answer is signified by a green flag. The game is timed. Instructions: 1. Watch the road signs. They come in pairs. The first contains a definition and the second displays a set of four terms from which to choose. 2. Use the Left and Right arrows on your keyboard to align your vehicle with each correct answer. Correct answers will earn you a green flag. 3. Use the Up and Down arrows on your keyboard to control your speed. 4. Use the Spacebar to pause the game. 5. The race continues and the clock keeps ticking until you ve earned 15 green flags. 6. Pick your vehicle and click Start to begin the race. Racing Pulse (defibrillator on top of stand) This game uses the human body as a game board. You ll play against the computer to see whose game piece can map a lap around the body first. Instructions: 1. Play against the computer to be the first to race your pulse point around the body to reach 60 beats. 2. Answer questions correctly to spin the wheel and move ahead. If you answer incorrectly you forfeit your turn. Matching (computer monitor) You ll see a list of definitions as well as a bank of possible terms that describe each definition. Use your mouse to drag each of the terms into the box that corresponds to each definition. Gridlock (computer monitor) This is a Jeopardy -style game. Clear the grid by answering the questions hidden beneath the tiles. Click on a tile to reveal a question for the category shown on the tile. Enter the correct answer to earn 100 points. Clear all the tiles in a row horizontally or vertically to earn 1000 bonus points. Clear a row diagonally to earn 5000 bonus points. Quest for a Million (computer monitor) This game challenges your ability to answer multiple questions in succession. With each correct answer, the points total builds. Miss a question, though, and you must start over. Crossword (folder sitting on the stool) The classic word puzzle that serves as a fun way to match definitions (or hints) with their corresponding terms.

Word Search (folder sitting on the stool) This is the classic word search format, but with a twist. The terms to find are not provided only the definitions. The terms that match these definitions are hidden in this puzzle. They can appear horizontally or vertically, forward or backward. When you find a term, click the first letter and drag the mouse to the last letter to highlight it. Strikeout (folder sitting on the stool) A fill-in-the-blank statement is provided, and then you choose the letters that spell the missing term. Duplicate letters will fill in automatically. If you choose incorrectly, you ll get one strike. Three incorrect selections and the game is over. Show and Spell (folder sitting on the stool) This word game challenges you to unscramble the letters to spell the word that matches the definition. Instructions: 1. Use your mouse to drag and drop the letters until you ve spelled the medical term that matches the clue beneath. 2. You may click Hint to display two random letters. Limit: two hints per term. 3. You may click Skip to forfeit your answer and advance to the next term. Word Up (folder sitting on the stool) This is a multiple-choice game where all 10 answer choices fly across the screen at the same time. Select the correct answer for each hint that appears at the bottom of the screen. This game is timed. Instructions: 1. As the clock ticks down, use your mouse to click on the term that matches each clue at the bottom of the screen. 2. You can use the arrows on your keyboard to control the terms as they move on your screen. 3. See if you can click on all the correct terms in the shortest amount of time. Popping Words (pill bottle on the stand) Another variation on multiple choice. Look at the term provided on a pill. Then, click on the correct corresponding pill bottle.

Laboratory Here you ll find a variety of videos games and study aids. Many images throughout the room are clickable. For a legend of what image maps to which game(s), click on the Show Games button. To hide this legend, click the button (now titled Hide Games) again. Here is a breakdown of each of the applications found in this room (clockwise from left): Memory Aid (books on bookshelf): Here you will find quick memory aids to help master the material. Instructor Resources: This link will not be active in the student version of MTI.

Assignments Your instructor may assign activities within MTI for you to complete as part of your course grade. In order for your instructor to see your grades from the activities, you must join a class, with a class ID your instructor gives you. How to Join a Class Log into MTI. In the upper right hand corner, click Join a Class. Enter the Class ID your instructor gave you.

Grade Tracker Using the Grade Tracker As you work through the activities in MTI, your grades will be recorded in the Grade Tracker. Just click on the Grade Tracker link in the upper right corner; then you can view your grades. Note: Sometimes it takes a few minutes, after you have completed your work, for your grades to show up in the Grade Tracker. You can search for and view your grades for particular activities by using the drop down arrows, and you can download and print out your grades.

Grade Tracker Tips 1: No blank spaces in answers When you enter written responses in some of the activities such as Medical Language Spoken Here be careful not to enter extra blank spaces in the answer. Blank spaces will be read by the program as a letter, and the answer will be counted wrong. 2: Watch all the videos in a section in order to get full credit You need to watch all videos in a section in order to receive full credit. In the Laboratory Room, for example, several videos appear in the activities such as Disease Investigation or Career Focus. If you watch only some of the videos in a section, you ll receive only a portion of the total 100% available credit. For example, as seen in the screen shot below, you d need to watch both the Ulcer and the Cancer video to receive 100% credit.
