Explore the Opportunity The Ohio State University (Ohio State) invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean and Director for Extension. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Agricultural Administration and Dean, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. The Extension system is the world s largest non-formal educational system. Extension s hallmark is programing delivered by professionals to address the needs of the local community while also addressing state, national and global issues. OSU Extension is a dynamic educational entity that partners with individuals, families, communities, business and industry, and organizations to strengthen the lives of Ohioans. It fulfills the land-grant mission of Ohio State by interpreting knowledge and research developed by Extension and other faculty and staff at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, Ohio State main campus, and other land-grant universities. For over 100 years, OSU Extension has provided forwardthinking, scientifically based information to better the lives, businesses and communities of Ohioans. Ohioans from very county in the state have been helped by the four major OSU Extension program areas: family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development, community development and agriculture and natural resources. These program areas are continuously being evaluated and updated to meet the changing needs and issues facing each community. The successful candidate for this position will have a clear and compelling vision for the development and implementation of the Universities dynamic state-wide educational program. They will also have outstanding administrative leadership and management skills with a demonstrated record of success in a large and multifaceted organization. She/he will have a clear and compelling vision for the future of community-based education and an exceptional record of entrepreneurship and innovation. The candidate of choice will also possess the vision and transformational leadership capacity to shepherd OSU Extension during a time of significant pedagogical innovation in higher education as well as increasing globalization of the campus and society. He/she will speak the language of academic faculty and possess the political and diplomatic skills to forge productive campus partnerships while also sustaining OSU Extension s strong relationships in the community. The candidate will be conversant in educational technologies, and possess the capacity to lead experimentation with state-of-the-art educational approaches. Qualifications OSU Extension seeks an innovative leader to continue and to accelerate its exceptional record of excellence. Ohio State recognizes the full measure of scholarship in teaching and learning; research and creative activities; and service in evaluating the accomplishments of our tenure-line faculty. The successful applicant will possess credentials to be hired as a tenured professor in a relevant unit within the College, consistent with the academic nature of this appointment. A Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree is required. Specific qualifications for initial consideration follow: Demonstrated interpersonal skills to create and maintain effective working relationships with senior administrators and a diverse range of campus constituents, as well as external stakeholders, including business leaders, governmental agency personnel, and elected officials at local to national levels. Demonstrated track record in entrepreneurial and business leadership, and strong organizational, decision- making and strategic planning skills. Demonstrated experience in managing staff to optimize employee and organizational productivity to fulfill changing priorities, goals and objectives. Demonstrated evidence of increasingly responsible senior administrative experience within a university setting or organizational equivalent. Demonstrated ability to achieve goals through promoting collaboration and teambuilding and working cooperatively with peers, employees, faculty, and with a diverse group of campus constituencies and external constituencies.
