A modern university is a university created after 1992. **HESA employment performance indicator 2017 Hong Kong Nang Yan College of Higher Education (NYC) was founded in April 2014 with the approval from the HKSAR Government in conformity with the Post-Secondary College Ordinance, Chapter 320 of the laws of Hong Kong. It owns two campuses which are well-equipped with the necessary teaching and learning facilities. The campuses allow for harmonious interaction between teachers and students. The programmes awarded by NYC range from Diploma, Associate Degree to Bachelor Degree levels. They have all been accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) and recognised the HKSAR Government. It is an honour for NYC to collaborate with the University of West London to host their programmes in Hong Kong. Programme Structure The Claude Littner Business School offers a unique learning experience in which students work collaboratively with faculty and business organisations to achieve their ambitions. Semester 1 Corporate Financial Management () The module will develop further issues of accounting control and then focus on advanced corporate finance issues, the bond market, share valuations, foreign exchange strategies, derivative securities, portfolio theory and corporate valuation. The module will discuss both the theoretical and practical approaches to these issues as well as the relationship between financial markets, corporate financial policy and the real economy. It will assess the participant s understanding through the application of financial models and theory through a live case study. Capital Markets and Decisions under Risk () The module is a blend of theory and practice. Students will run a fictitious hedge fund with a pre-defined seed money and strategy; they will simulate trades under market conditions. Areas to be covered include: Theoretical underpinning of Capital Markets efficient markets theory and the behavioural challenge; Financial System and Capital Markets definitions, functions and evolution; Capital Markets players and instruments; Hedge fund industry. Corporate Responsibility () The module develops skills in the ethical analysis of business conduct. Contemporary concerns relating to the need for effective corporate citizenship and governance structures are also addressed and discussed, together with the causes of emerging calls for improved corporate accountability and social responsibility. 8 9

Timetable s Semester 1 Semester 2 Corporate Financial Management Capital Markets and Decisions under Risk Corporate Responsiblity Corporate Financial Reporting Business Strategy Management Decision Making Semester 2 Corporate Financial Reporting () The module covers the financial reporting principles and practices as it applies to a variety of business contexts and situations. Students will learn to apply knowledge, skills, and exercise professional judgement in such context. Business Strategy () This module focuses on company and organisation strategic analysis and decision making in the context of changing industry structures, and the uncertain business environment in which organisations function. The module examines theoretical and management issues underpinning a wide range of strategic debates relevant to modern organisations. An evaluation of differing approaches to strategy-making is explored in order to provide an informed and critical view of creative strategies at both a corporate and operational level. After introducing the module and strategy in general, this module examines common analytical tools and frameworks used for the purpose of strategic position identification. Management Decision Making () Optional This module aims to develop certain skills: The ability of understanding the concept of decision making and its importance; Understanding practical management decision making problems; Evaluate risk probabilities associated with various models of decision making; Gain confidence in dealing with real management problems. Dissertation (60 Credits) The dissertation provides students an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of a particular area in Finance and Accounting by completing an extended piece of self-managed research work, with guidance from their allocated supervisors. Research Methods seminars will also be provided. Its aim is to develop student s research abilities to establish research aims, research questions, testable hypotheses, collecting data, analysing and interpreting results. Dissertation or Project (60 credits) The student normally has a few months after the taught modules and relevant assessments are completed to write the dissertation. For those students who start in September 2018, they must submit the dissertation by 31 August 2019. An extension of up to one month is permissible upon request. Staff Profiles The School and tutors are very supportive, and you can get access to them whenever you want through email. My thinking has become so different it made me look more into what I can do and how I can fulfil my aspirations. I feel like nothing is impossible and you can do it with the help of the staff and lecturers. I would definitely recommend UWL to prospective students because it has a really good teaching team and they are all supportive and approachable. Karishma Sheth MSc Finance and Accounting Professor Chin-Bun Tse Headships of Department of Accounting and Finance I have extensive academic experience having previously worked at four UK universities. I held two professorships and Headships of Department or Accounting and Finance at the University of Bedfordshire and the University of Salford. My main research interest is corporate finance, particularly on dividend policy and capital structure decisions, where my publications in these areas have been widely quoted. During my academic career, I have developed a number of successful Masters programme (both full-time and distance learning), and worked on a number of international partnerships programme. Before my academic career, I was working in accounting and business advisory practice s in both Hong Kong and London at a senior level, dealing with complicated cases and working with CEO s, CFO s and Directors of companies of all sizes. Liana Hayrapetyan Lecturer in Finance and Accounting Liana obtained her MBA in Finance and Corporate Accounting from Simon School, University of Rochester, NY, USA and her MSc in Economics from Yerevan State University, Armenia. She is CFA Charter holder and brings in a wealth of real-world experience financial industry, entrepreneurship and consultancy. Her professional experiences ranges from large corporations to start-ups both in the UK and globally. Dr Piotr Konwicki Senior Lecturer in Finance With over 20 years of experience in both teaching and practicing finance; his PhD thesis on Technical Barriers to Trade between Poland and the EU became part of the Polish White paper during country s EU accession negotiations. His professional career includes Country Manager, Poland Director, Country Head, Poland and Central European Execution Head, Development/MandA Director, Senior Board Advisor. Piotr was the Project leader advising Polish Government on the sale of the tobacco industry (the largest sectorial privatisation in Central Europe. 12 13
