Public Examination Results and Upper Sixth Leavers Destinations For the summer 2018 exam sessions 1
Introduction This booklet gives a summary of the GCSE and A-level examination results achieved by our pupils in 2018 and the Upper Sixth leavers destinations. At Princethorpe, it is important that our pupils develop as allround individuals and achieve their full potential; we are delighted with the success of both of these groups in their academic achievements and in the way in which they have flourished as young people. Out of a cohort of 107 Upper Sixth Formers, all gained admission to the university of their choice with 34% of the grades at A* or A and 60% at A* - B. We are delighted with the results and particularly pleased that the top sixteen percent of candidates achieved three or more grades at A* and A. The average UCAS points per pupil was 135, comfortably above the new standard for top universities of ABB (128 UCAS points). These are our best ever set of results and we are delighted with their academic achievements, together with the many other qualities they have developed at the College: kindness, respect and a strong sense of morality, all of which will be very important as they move on to the next phase of their lives. At GCSE, from a cohort of 154 pupils, over 44% of grades were at the coveted new 9, 8 or 7 (A* - A) grades, and 67% at grade 6 (B) or better. 23% of our pupils achieved eight or more 9-7 (A* - A) grades. Again we are delighted with the excellent results and very pleased that the vast majority of this cohort joined our Sixth Form taking Sixth Form numbers up to just under two hundred. Whilst incredibly important, we do so much more than help our pupils achieve excellent examination results. We offer a caring, supportive and well-ordered educational environment, encouraging pupils to develop their full potential academically, socially, physically and spiritually. To quote our most recent school inspection report (2014): Pupils at all ages show excellent standards of personal development. This is particularly evident in the Sixth Form, from where pupils leave the school extremely well equipped to be responsible citizens ready to make a valuable contribution to the wider world. 2
Table 1: Departmental A-level results The table shows the results in all twenty-four A-level subjects on offer. Of the one hundred and seven students in last year s Upper Sixth, all were accepted into their university of choice. Table 2: Departmental GCSE results The table shows the results in twenty-six GCSE and IGCSE subjects. All pupils take GCSEs in English Language, English Literature, Religious Studies and Mathematics. In Science pupils either take three separate Sciences or Double Science. Most also take a Modern Language. The remaining subjects on the curriculum are all options. 3
