Artist Statement In painting for the themed compilation of pieces for the fragile spaces exhibition, I selected four landscapes. One painting was at Bear Lake, where the forest had been decimated by the Pine Beetle. Another was a fall scene in New Brunswick. A third is of a pasture with cows in an agricultural setting and the fourth a beaver pond. I selected a common palette with colours and shapes representing the musical flow of nature. All were painted in oil. I like the creaminess of oil so I chose that instead of another medium, watercolour, which I sometimes use. I was able to bring the painted subjects to life in a realistic style with the oil. I did not want to paint them to look like photographs, rather I wanted to make them painterly. Artist Biography Margaret Ann Paradis trained in oil and watercolour painting with well known artists over an extended period of time. She studied drawing in charcoal and graphite, experimenting with the medium doing life studies from models. She exhibited at the John B. Aird Gallery, Toronto. In the Barrie area she showed her art work at the By The Sea Boutique (Solo Show) and at Ridge West Gallery. Group shows were at the Arabesque Gallery, Zephyr Gallery in Orillia, Kempenfest Festival, Barrie City Hall Rotunda, and a solo show at the Loovre Gallery. She is represented in Barrie by the Artistic Frameworks Gallery and the Barrie Art Club Gallery. Margaret Ann Paradis was a member of Studio 2880 Workshop and is currently chair of the Bayside Artists and a member of the Barrie Art Club.
