Teachers found that after the experiment 58% of the children had improved their reading skills and 38% had improved their spelling and writing skills. Teachers believe that the experiment shows how a poor diet with not many vitamins affects children's learning. First of all, read through what you have written and check for spelling problems. Then look at the punctuation. Have you got sentences that are far too long, or that need a comma? Do the verbs agree with the subject? Is your use of word order correct or have you written in the syntax of your native language? Paper 3 - Speaking (Time: 8 10 minutes per pair of candidates) PART 1 (5-6 minutes) Introducing Yourself The first part of the test takes 5-6 minutes and you have to show that you can use the English you need when you meet someone for the first time. What s your name? Do you work or are you a student? Where do you live? Which do you prefer more, watching TV or going to the cinema? What is your home like? Do you enjoy playing or watching any sport? PART 2 (3-4 minutes) Prompt card activity This part takes 3 to 4 minutes and you have to talk to the other candidate. The examiner will give you a prompt card like the one below and you have to ask and answer questions. The examiner reads out these instructions and gives a question card to Candidate B and an answer card to Candidate A. Candidate A, here is some information about a sports club. Candidate B, you don t know anything about the sports club, so ask A some questions about it. Now B, ask A your questions about the sports club and A you answer them. A different set of prompt cards is then given out, so that Candidate A has the opportunity to ask questions and Candidate B to answer them. In this example, the questions are about a rock concert. Candidate B, here is some information about a rock concert. Candidate A, you don t know anything about the rock concert, so ask B some questions about it. Paper 3 - Speaking Useful Vocabulary This is useful vocabulary for Paper 3 Speaking, Part Two. The words and phrases below are useful when you are talking about sports and music. You should try and use them in your test. Hobbies Sports Team games Audience Rock/ jazz/ pop music Tickets Concert Recreation - things done in your spare time in order to relax Live music - this is where music is performed in front of an audience These are useful questions and phrases for both parts of the speaking test.
