Transfer to Secondary School 6 th September 2018
If your child was born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008, you will need to apply for a place in Year 7 in a Secondary School for September 2019. The application deadline is 31 st October 2018.
How do I apply? The deadline for applications is 31 st October 2018. Apply for a secondary school place on the KCC website. https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-andchildren/schools/school-places/secondary-school-places Alternatively, you can download and complete the Transfer to Secondary School paper application form. If you do this you will be informed by letter rather than email one to two days later. Information is available for Secondary School Open Days/Evenings 2018.
Why list more than one school preference? The application form allows you to list up to four schools in order of preference. All of your preferences will be considered equally against each school s oversubscription criteria and if we are able to offer a place at more than one of your preferred schools we will offer a place at the one you have ranked highest. Naming a second, third or fourth preference does not give you any less chance of getting a place at your first preference school. If you do not name a second, third or fourth preference and we are not able to allocate a place at your preferred school then we will allocate a place at the nearest school with a place available. It is strongly recommended that at least one of your preferences should be your nearest or designated school.
What if I change my mind before the application deadline? When applying online you can change your preference(s) right up to the deadline of 23:59 on 31 st October 2018. However, please remember that if you edit your application, it is essential that you resubmit it failure to do so will result in a non-application. If you have sent in a paper application form you will need to write to the School Admissions Team to tell them you want to change your preference(s). This must be received by 31 st October 2018.
When will I be told about the outcome of my application? If you submit an online application by 31 st October 2018 you will receive an email on Friday 1 st March 2019. If you submit a paper application by 31 st October 2018 a letter will be sent on 1 st March 2019.
What happens if my child is not offered a place at my preferred school? The email or letter will tell you whether you have been allocated a place at your second, third preference schools. If you did not name any other preferences or your other preference schools are also full, your child will be offered a place at the nearest school with room. If you are not allocated a place at your preferred school you will have the right to appeal to an independent panel - the letter will tell you how to do this. You will have 20 school days after you receive your notification to appeal the decision. Appeals must then be heard within 40 school days of this deadline. If your child has a Statement of Special Educational Needs or Education, Health and Care Plan, you will have the right of appeal to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal. However, in the first instance, you will be advised to contact the Assessment and Education Provision Team
