Thursday, 30 November 2017 WALLAVILLE NEWS Welcome to the last newsletter for 2017! It has been a very busy, but productive year at Wallaville State School for students and staff alike. In this newsletter I will focus on outlining exactly what is happening around our school for the next week so that everyone is clear as it is going to be jam packed!!!. Lap Club Students at Wallaville had set themselves a goal We were running from the Gold Coast to Cape York! At 8:50am each morning, students have 5 minutes to run laps around the oval. It s Walla versus Drinan! Our P&C have kindly donated an iceblock for each member of the winning team at the end of term and a $5 tuckshop voucher each for the 2 students who have run the most laps. These vouchers went to Darcy Rea and Riley Harrison once again! Well done boys. I have also calculated the distance that year 4/5 and 6 students would have walked at camps over the past two weeks A staggering 320kms between them! So this term, students at Wallaville have covered 1120klms and the school has run from the Gold Coast to Cairns since starting our journey!! Year 6 Camp Year 6 student had an amazing time away at Tallebudgera Beach School last week. After an early start on Monday we travelled to the Gold Coast and unlaoded all our gear. After which we enjoyed a walk up and around Burleigh Mountain. Tuesday saw testing our nerves and riding the exteme rides at Wet n Wild. I confess to you that I may have shed a small tear on one of these rides if anyone asks if you want to go on the Kamakze. I would suggest you say No! On Wednesday we kayaked up the Tallebuegerra Creek to David Fleay s Wildlife Park and learned heaps about the animals there. What a beautiful spot to visit. We even got to see a fantastic bird show. Thursday was extreme action once again with bodyboarding and tobogganing. Some great photos from this day. Thank you to all of my year 6 students for their amazing behaviour and consideration of others while on camp. We will miss you next year. Look out for the slideshow on Awards and Concert night about this camp. Year 4/5 camp Monday of this week saw myself along with 17 year 4 & 5 students head off to Bargara Beach Caravan Park for two nights away at the beach.

Monday we set up camp and then headed for the beach for a swim. Apparently the waves were huge!! On Monday night we walked to Mon Repos to the Turtle Centre. We had a very informative night but unfortunately we did not see any turtles. Tuesday morning was spent at the Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club with Jamie teaching us all about Surf safety and running some activities on the beach. Wednesday s wet weather forced us to break camp early and return to school. Thank you to Ray and his team at the Caravan Park for looking after us so well. We had a great camp. Year 6 Graduation Dinner This Saturday night will see our current Year 6 students enjoy their final dinner as Wallaville State School students. The evening will be attended by Cr. Wayne Honor and Mr Selwyn Bengtson from the Bendigo Bank who will be presenting the graduating students with their certificates and a gift from the Bendigo Bank. Swimming Carnival Our annual swimming carnival will be held on Monday at the Gin Gin Community Pool with Drinan battling Walla to retain the trophy. All welcome to come along and cheer on our students. P&C will be running a canteen on this day with sweets, chips and drinks available as well as a sausage sizzle. Pre-orders were due today. SuperStar award Next Tuesday will see the SuperStar students enjoy a Slip n Slide on the oval. Students should bring along their togs and sun shirts to be involved in this. Concert & Awards Evening Our annual Awards Evening and Concert will be held on Wednesday December. During this evening we will be acknowledging our students for their academic, social, musical and sporting accomplishments and announcing our School Leaders for 2018. Our students will also be performing for you all, with the theme for this year being Dance Party!. P&C will be holding a BBQ and there will be raffles also on the evening. Please see the program attached to this Newsletter. MegaStar Rewards Day Students who have reached the level of MegaStar will begin to receive their invitations to join us for a trip to Bundaberg on Thursday. Prep-1 students will be spending some time at the Y-Mazing Café while the 2-6 students are attending the Ninjago Lego Movie at the Moncrieff Cinema. Lunch will then be enjoyed in the park before heading home. Students should bring their own morning tea and lunch. Students who do not achieve the level of Mega Star will be supervised back at school by Mrs Inskip. Friday 8 th December will be the last day of school! On behalf of all the staff of Wallaville State School, we thank you for your support this year. We wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and holiday break. Look forward to seeing you all in 2018. Strings Instrumental Music 2018 It is recruiting time once again for the Strings Instrumental Music Program. We are looking for students from Year 2 (2017) upwards who wish to learn to play a string instrument violin, viola or cello. Letters were handed out to

interested students in years 2 to 5 recently. These will need to be filled out and returned to the school office by Thursday, November 23, 2017. If your child wishes to learn to play a string instrument and did not receive a letter, please ask for a letter at the school office. Thank you. Mrs Smith TENNIS HOLIDAY CLINIC for children, will be conducted at Rotary Park Tennis complex, 69b George Street, South Bundaberg by Bundaberg Tennis Academy Coaches, Murray Whitbread and Kevin Banner - Monday, 15th, Tuesday 16th, Wednesday 17th January 2018.
