They pray, do penance, and help the poor. By spending this time well, Christians can grow in faith and change their lives for the better. And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. -- John 20:22 http://facebook.com/holyspiritcatholicparishop

HOLY SPIRIT TRACK & FIELD 2018 4 th 8 th Grade Registration for the 2018 track season is open now on the CYO website. Click here to register www.cyojwa.org Practice We will begin practicing on MONDAY, MARCH 19, 2018 from 6-7:30PM. Practice will be Mon, Tues & Thursday s from 6 7:30 at Overland Trail Middle School track, located at 6201 W. 133 rd Street, Leawood, KS 66209. Spring is a busy time of year, we offer practice 3 nights a week to accommodate all our athletes, come as you are able! 4 th graders will only practice one night a week, which will be Monday s. Again, we run a flexible program, if your 4 th grade athlete has another commitment Monday evening, send them Tuesday. DO I HAVE TO ATTEND EVERY PRACTICE? No, but we encourage you to come as often as absolutely possible. Track is a short season. At the end of our seven weeks we are just beginning to see what your potential might be. Take advantage of our time on the track. Work hard and we promise you that you will see improvements. AM I ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN OTHER SPORTS DURING THE TRACK SEASON? Absolutely, but we do ask that you consider making your track meets a priority. Most importantly, the City Track Meet is scheduled for SATURDAY MAY 5TH. This is an all day meet. This is the only meet were points are scored and trophies are awarded. It is also the only time that records in the running events can be set. Please plan to be there! To compete in City Meet, you must participate in 2 meets. Note that 4 th graders do not participate in City Meet. WHEN ARE THE MEETS? All of our meets are on Saturdays at either Bishop Miege High or Mill Valley High. The dates of our meets are 4/7 (Girls AM Boys PM), 4/14 (Boys AM Girls PM), 4/21 (Girls AM- Boys PM) and the City Meet is on 5/5. The meets begin at 9:00 am and 1:00 PM. The girls will have the morning meet the first week and the boys will compete in the afternoon. The next week they will switch. The meets usually last about 3 hours per session. SO, WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR JOINING THE TEAM? The only requirement is that you must be a member of Holy Spirit Parish in grades 4-8. No experience is necessary to be a very important part of our team! We encourage everyone to come out and experience what it means to be a part of such a fantastic team. DO WE HAVE A UNIFORM? Our uniform is a very attractive Holy Spirit Track t-shirt that will be yours to enjoy for many, many years. The track shirt is included in track fees. The girls do have the option of purchasing the shorter running
short again for $20. Boys wear any black shorts to the meet. DO I HAVE TO BUY EXPENSIVE RUNNING SHOES? It is very important that you wear running shoes to track practice. How much you spend on them is entirely up to you. You can usually get 300-400 miles out of a good pair of running shoes. We won t come anywhere near that during our season, so think about what your running habits are now and what your future running plans are. The most important thing is to get a shoe that fits correctly. Garry Gribbles is always helpful in that department. WHAT EVENTS DO WE COMPETE IN? In CYO Track & Field we compete in 7 individual running events (60M,100M,120M,200M,400M,800M and 1600M), and 3 different team relay events. There are four field events (high jump, long jump, ball throw (football for boys and softball for girls) and shot put). WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OUR PRACTICES? First, ALWAYS bring water. Second, dress in layers. It is much colder when we are wrapping up our practice than it is when we are getting started. Bring sweats to stay warm and protect your muscles. Finally, come ready to run. Dress in clothes that will be comfortable for you while we are stretching and running. Take a personal comfort break before practice as we do not have access to school facilities. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The track fees for this year are $95/athlete (4 th Gr $70), unless this is your 3 rd CYO sport then the cost is less $25.00. If this is your first CYO sport of the school year you will need to have a physical on file with CYO. Register for Track on CYO website at www.cyojwa.org If you have any questions or would like to help with the program, please feel free to call, text or email us. Happy Running!
