WISCONSIN RIVER WOODCARVERS INC NEWSLETTER MARCH 2017 On March 8, 2017 at 7 pm, President, Greg Wirtz called the Wisconsin River Woodcarvers Inc. to order. The Club met at The First Congregational United Church of Christ at 311 2 nd Street in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary Sophie Kubisiak. 23 members were present. Judy Cody made a motion to accept the minutes as read, Chet 2 nd the motion. Clark Snyder did make a change to the Church camp Quilting, Crafts, and Woodcarving weekend is $155.00 not $200.00. This will take place March 17 to the 19 th. FINANCIAL REPORT Deleted for web version. SUNSHINE REPORT Marion O Kray reported a Card of Sympathy was send to the Charlie Jackson Family. Get Well cards were sent to Karen Barten, Gerri Taylor, Sandy Hartjies. Marion read a very nice Thank You card we received from the Jackson family. If an immediate family member passes away, or a member is in the hospital, please contact Marion O Kray at 715-341-2214 or ron.marion@charter.net. OLD BUSINESS Greg showed 2 carvings he has done in Adina Huckin s seminar {a little doll and a woman head with a beautiful face.} Greg also showed and said he has rough-outs for the spoons for sale with the pattern for $15.00, some in butternut and some basswood. Call Greg if interested 715-423-0471. SEMINARS The Adina Huckins seminar will be September 18, 19, & 20, 2017 prior to the show. We have (4) students signed up for the class. Adina needs a minimum of (10) students and maximum of (12) students for the class. The cost of the class is $180.00 plus rough-out. Registration form is included. The Dylan Goodson seminar will be September 26, 27, & 28, 2017 just after the show. We have (6 ] students signed up for the class. Dylan needs minimum of (6) students and maximum of (10) students for the class. The cost of the class is $155.00 for Wisconsin River Woodcarvers club members and $170.00 for nonclub members plus rough-out. Dylan has sent information on his class and pictures of class projects. This information is posted on our website www.wisconsinriverwoodcarvers.org. Registration form is included. AWC Sophie Kubisiak is giving you a challenge; for every 10 {5 minute owls } you present to her your name will go into a bucket and a drawing will be for a prize {at least $ 50.00 worth} size about 2 inches long and ¾ inch block. Don t have to paint or stain. Owls will be donated to AWC Congress Show, we want to give all children that come to show one and IF we can collect more we will give to all people. They need to be done by May 15, 2017 at the latest. SHOW REPORT The show is proceeding nicely. We have (79) tables sold as of this time. The club is carving a Nativity set and a floor lamp for the raffle. There is one piece left for the lamp and several Nativity pieces. If you can help us out with these pieces, contact Ron O Kray. We will again print 25,000 placemats for restaurants in the

Stevens Point area advertising our show. All sponsors for the placemat adds are in place and we have received money from (9) businesses. We have agreements with restaurants in the Wisconsin Rapids area to use 25,000 placemats. Karen Barten and Chet James are working on getting sponsors for those placemats. The Banquet is set, the price will be the same as last year $22.00. Ron will be sending letters out to those who have paid for tables already, and get letters out to all carvers who had tables in 2015 or 2016 who have not paid for a table in 2017. Jerry Uher has completed the Press Release for the show. The show ribbons are on order. If you have a donation for either the raffle or show banquet, contact Ron O Kray. NEW BUSINESS The Boy Scouts want to thank the Wisconsin River Woodcarvers who put on a demonstration at the Boston School Forest on Saturday February 11, 2017. Jim Vannoy, Clark Snyder, Jerry Uher, and Ron O Kray for volunteered. Bill Day suggested a table at the show for other clubs to display their club information. We have (4) clubs that already have a club table paid for at the show. Ron will discuss this with Wisconsin carving clubs. The First Congregational United Church of Christ is sponsoring a Quilting, Crafts, and Woodcarving weekend from March 17 to 19, 2017 at St. Germaine, WI. This is a church camp retreat. The People that have joined within the last year once again, have asked us all to wear our name tags, they would like to talk to us instead of saying Hey You, So who ever has a name tag wear it, others would like a class on making a tag, I will get some paper tags to wear in the meantime. John Engler, again would like to come to Wisconsin to do a seminar. If you are interested let Greg or Chet know. We talked about maybe next year, just before our 2018 show. And then he would be one of our Judges. Judy Cody asked about doing a demonstration for 4H Club in Arpin. Greg had several demos he was doing now and would check it out. Sophie had several other Woodcarvers Club Newsletters for anyone to read. Motion was made by Marion O Kray to adjourn the meeting, Ron Peters seconded. All in favor, Meeting adjourned at 7:45 P.M. WISCONSIN RIVER WOODCARVERS ADINA HUCKINS SEMINAR Adina Huckins of West Fork, AR will be conducting a (3) day woodcarving class in carving a female face or bust prior to our show in 2017. Adina has been carving for 20 years and has taught and shown her work extensively. She comes from a family that has carved wood for three generations. Her goal is to capture a story or an emotion with her pieces that someone can relate to and connect with. Check out her website www.adinahuckins.com. WISCONSIN RIVER WOODCARVERS DYLAN GOODSON SEMINAR Dylan Goodson will be conducting a (3) day seminar with a choice of (4) projects. They are Sea Captain, Millhouse, North Woods Cabin & Viking.
