How do MV s physics classes fit into the recommended science course sequence? 1 BIOLOGY OR CHEMISTRY PHYSICS AP PHYSICS 1 AP PHYSICS C
2 What are the differences In Physics, you will frequently use algebra, geometry, and basic trigonometry. You ll need a scientific calculator. AP Physics 1 uses all of the concepts listed above, but also requires knowledge of more advanced trigonometry and the solution of systems of equations. You ll need a graphing calculator.
What are the differences Physics 3 Honors/ In Physics, the test questions are essay, conceptual and multiple-choice as well free-response problems to solve. Equations are always given to you so memorizing is not required. Often note cards & study guides can be used. In AP Physics 1, about one-third of the test questions are conceptual and multiple choice, but most are freeresponse problems.
4 What are the differences In Physics labs, you create your own data tables using Word or OpenOffice, create hand-drawn graphs, answer a few questions and complete a discussion of results. In AP Physics 1 labs, you create your own data tables using Word or OpenOffice, create your own graphs using Excel, and briefly answer ten to twenty questions.

5 What are the differences In Physics, you should expect about two hours of homework each week.reading, answering questions, solving problems, finishing lab reports, and doing projects. In AP Physics 1, you should expect about six hours of homework each week.reading, watching video lectures, finishing lab reports, doing projects, and lots and lots of problem solving. YOU choose the type and number of the problems you solve for HW and practice.
6 What are the differences During Physics class, most of the time will be spent working with your lab group to complete your assignments and to prepare for exams. There are usually one or two lectures per week but these are short. During AP Physics 1 class, about half of the time will be spent working with your lab group to complete your assignments and preparing for exams. There are usually seven video lectures per three-week unit.
7 What are some differences In both Physics and AP Physics 1, each major concept (which may include several chapters) is covered according to a strict schedule with laboratory work, however : In Physics, independent reading, lecture, net resources and review happen with small quizzes then a test. In AP Physics 1, the, independent reading, lecture, practice, and review all happen before the test.

What are some similarities 8 In both Physics and AP Physics 1, many students get B s. In both classes, to get an A you have to be really good at physics. In both classes, lots of people work really hard. They don t all get A s.
What are some similarities 9 In both Physics and AP Physics 1, students cover the same curriculum topics outlined in the State Standards. In both classes, students need to take notes using the Cornell Notes format.
What about AP Physics C? 10 You shouldn t take it until after you have taken either Physics or AP Physics 1. If you plan to take AP Physics C next year, you should be taking calculus now. You will use calculus in AP Physics C starting on Day Two. See Mr. Birdsong for more information.
