Thus, issues related to higher education are the focal point of discussion in different forums in institutions of learning. The scenario of Indian higher education is rapidly changing. Quality education shall always be in the priority list of institutions offering higher education. Quality education focuses on performance, evaluation, assessment, accreditation and up-gradation. Maintaining the quality of education in the higher education system now-a-days is a challenge for universities and institutions. 2
Keeping these circumstances in mind, a national workshop is proposed to know and exchange the views of academic experts about higher education, research and related issues. The workshop aims at showcasing to its participants the best pedagogical practice in higher education and research today. Issues related to academic assessment, integration of technology and learning, change in teaching lexicon etc. shall be highlights of the workshop. WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES i. Bringing around disciplinary and interdisciplinary instructional strategies and related research in higher educational institutions. ii. Purpose of academic assessment, attaining better grades, integration of technology in the learning and evaluation process. iii. Changes to be incorporated in teaching lexicon for active engagement of students and to encourage learning. iv. Demonstrate effective instructional practice and disseminate the latest research at improving the quality of higher education. PARTICIPATION The participants shall comprise of faculty members of different Colleges, Universities and Institutes of Higher Education, IQAC Coordinators from colleges and research scholars. REGISTRATION FEE Local participants shall get themselves registered by paying a fee of Rs. 500/- only. This fee shall include workshop kit, refreshments and working lunch during the workshop days. Limited local transport facility shall also be arranged by the organizers. Out-stationed participants, seeking travel support and accommodation, will have to pay a registration fee of Rs. 750/- only. Payment is to be made either in Cash at Department of Statistics, Assam University, Silchar or by DD/Cheque in favour of Head, Dept of Statistics payable at Silchar. Last date of submitting Registration fees along with filled-in Registration form is 17 th November, 2015. Registration shall be offered in first-come-first-serve basis. Not more than 12 out-stationed participants shall be accommodated. All communication to the participants shall be made via email. TRAVEL AND LIVING SUPPORT FOR OUT-STATIONED PARTICIPANTS Out-stationed participants shall be provided accommodation in hotels in Silchar town on twin sharing basis (non-ac), if required. Limited travel support i.e. Bus fare/train (Sleeper Class) fare through shortest route shall be reimbursed against submission of relevant documents. ABOUT ASSAM UNIVERSITY AND STATISTICS DEPARTMENT Assam University came into existence through Assam (Central) University Act, 1989. It was established in 1994, since then the University is steadily becoming an excellent centre of learning. The University has sixteen Schools on major disciplines. There are 36 Departments under these Sixteen Schools. The department of Statistics is the youngest department of Assam University. It was established in 2014. But within a short period of time the department has joined the main stream of activities of the university. The Department of Statistics has a mission to improving the quality of research in the university and beyond. 5
