ST JOHN VIANNEY S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL 23 Police Road, MULGRAVE 3170 Parent Newsletter 31st May, 2017 Page 1 Ph: 9546-4161 Fax: 9546-9098 Email : sjvmul@sjvmulgrave.catholic.edu.au Website: www.sjvmulgrave.catholic.edu.au Dear Families, Over the weekend we celebrated the Feast of the Ascension which is the fortieth day after Easter Sunday, commemorating the Ascension of Christ into heaven. The Gospel reading from Matthew reassures us that as followers of Christ, although Jesus is no longer physically present, he is with us to the end of time. FAIR FOR FAIRNESS A very successful Fair for Fairness was held on the 19 th May. Congratulations to the Mini Vinnies group for raising nearly $1500 for those in need. The children always enjoy these days as there is many fun-filled activities to choose from. Thanks to the Parents and Friends for their donations and all the parents who always generously provide goods for the stalls and monies for the students to spend. CONFIRMATION On Wednesday the 17 th May 42 of our students were confirmed by Bishop Eliot. This is always a very important occasion in the life of a Christian as it fully initiates us into the life of the Church. Confirmation celebrates the fullness of the Holy Spirit in the Church. Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist lays the foundations of every Christian life. MYUNA FARM On the 25 th May our Garden Club students went on an excursion to Myuna Farm with Mrs Russo and the ladies from the Garden Club. This annual event allows students to participate in a range of hands-on activities such as a farm show, train ride to the wetlands, ponding around the boardwalk and a trip to the animal nursery to pat and cuddle animals such as guineas pigs, rabbits and lambs. On the feed trail they got to hand feed animals throughout farm paddocks such as alpacas, camels, cattle, buffalo, goats and emus. The students enjoyed this day immensely where they also had an opportunity to see the community garden and all the different fruits and vegetables growing. PRINCIPAL APPOINTMENT Last Monday as part of the process to appoint a new principal, the staff met with regional office staff to discuss the areas of leadership necessary for St John Vianney s school. The principal is one whose leadership gives life to concepts, goals, policies and theories of education. The principal sets the tone, creates the atmosphere and nourishes the spirit, thereby enabling the faith dimension of a school to flourish. They also bring to the daily operation of our parish school that uniqueness that allows a truly Christian educational community to develop and prosper. This process will enable the appointment of the best person available for our school. BABY NEWS Baby Sison was born on Sunday 28 th May. Baby and mum are doing well. Baby Nya obviously couldn t wait any longer and arrived early. We wish Frieda, Ian and Nya all the joy that a new baby brings to the family. WELCOME TO JOSIE We welcome Josie Fantoma who is replacing Frieda Sison in Prep. Josie comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and spent some time in prep with Frieda to enable a smooth transition for the students.
ST JOHN VIANNEY S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL 23 Police Road, MULGRAVE 3170 Parent Newsletter 31st May, 2017 Page 2 EXITING FROM CAR PARK There are some concerns from parents about cars leaving to exit onto Police Road in the afternoons. Cars waiting to turn onto Police Road are parked over the footpath which is very dangerous to pedestrians. Students have to weave in and out of cars to walk on the footpath. Pleas refrain from parking across footpath to enable our students and other pedestrians to be safe.
