In order to procreate the facilities, IIT Indore adopted a Govt school named Govt. Middle School, Govt. High School, Govt. Higher Seconday School and Govt. Middle Girls School in Simrol. Grass Root Innovator Mr. Gangaram Chouhan India has recorded 1, 75,000 innovations at the grass root level in the last two years through its National Innovation Foundation. Low tech, grass root-level innovations may hold the key to overcoming some of the resource challenges we face today; and we might be missing them. A better example can be seen in IIT Indore. A talented poor person named Ganga Ram Chouhan belong to Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, just a B.Com degree holder has not enough money to give better education to his off spring. IIT Indore gives him a better platform to develop various indigenous products which can be utilized in society. He has designed a bi-cycle named Innovative Bi-Cycle which is modified version of conventional one, having better automation and efficiency. It works on principle of Newtons first law, where energy is store in magnetically attach flywheel, which can be used during requirement. In order decrease the friction during movement rear wheel axle is mounted on bearing. The bicycle will be commercially available in few days. The success has given him National level recognition in India; moreover he has been awarded in IIT Kanpur and IISC Bangalore for his remarkable grass-root innovation. Following are the example of his success story. [1] Unique bicycle, [2] Bicycle driven hand pump, [3] Bicycle Trolley [4] Manually driven Tractor [No Fuel], [5] Folding Cot, [6] Agricultural Equipment etc.

EVENT The RAA Unit along with Dr. S. K Vishvakarma & Mr. Lalit Jain Students Monitoring Committee (RAA) of IIT Indore, together took the lead to conduct a tour of the Govt. Higher Secondary School and the Govt. Middle Girls Hostel at Simrol, Indore. DATE April 1, 2016 Target accomplished through the tour of Govt. H S School, Simrol 1. Even though the sun was at it s peak when we reached there. The students of Govt. H S School were very excited to meet us. All the students were gathered by the teachers into a classroom. Students starting from class VI onwards till Class XII were present to listen to what we had for them. We introduced the students to two renowned grass root innovators Mr. Gangaram and Mr. Shri Prakash Diwedi, who are presently working on their socially worthy innovations using only elementary knowledge and materials at IIT Indore. Isn t that amazing?! With the same spirit, both of them explained the attendees, how they select and work on innovative projects which will improve quality of life of village people and help the economically weaker sections to generate income with negligible investment. They successfully shared their experiences on how they turned adversities into great opportunities and were rewarded with curious question from the students! 2. Then, we charted a plan to convert their computer lab (now being non-functional in a shabby room) into a totally functional one with renovated structure. We discussed in detail how to engage IIT-I industry partners under corporate socio-economic responsibility to fulfil financial requirements and IIT-I community for volunteering activities in order to renovate the lab and make it a fully functional one. 3. Later on, we also discussed about the computer training courses to be provided by IIT-I to improve the computer based knowledge of students as well as teachers. 4. We motivated the students to bring about their zest and innovative ideas so that we can provide necessary facilities and environment thereby enabling them work for their passion to create something worthy for the society.

5. Interestingly, we found a 12 th class student who is a champion player at district level in the sport of Archery, but is unable to proceed at a National Level due to lack of facilities and financial support. The team then discussed about various ways and contacts through which his talent could be supported ahead. Upcoming sports facilities at IIT Indore could be used for his training. FUTURE DIRECTIONS OF WORK: There are a couple of directions in which the team plans to take this case ahead. First one being: identification of certain students to support the development of an innovative solution for a problem which they have identified in their daily routine. However, since the school is nonresidential, this will be executed, once the next session begins in July. Second: development of computer infrastructure, at the currently existing laboratory arrangement at the school. We plan to execute this before the beginning of the next session. Once, it is ready, a small team of volunteers could be sent there on a pre-planned schedule for giving computer lessons, during the session. Target accomplished through the tour of Govt. Middle Girls Hostel, Simrol 1. Similar to the previous visit to Govt. H S Secondary School Simrol, at the Govt. Middle Girls hostel, we introduced the students to our two grass root innovators Mr. Gangaram and Mr. Shri Prakash Diwedi. Here also, both of them explained the students and the wardens, how they select and work on innovative projects which will improve quality of life of village people and help the economically weaker sections to generate income with negligible investment. Now, these girls had visited IIT Indre s campus a couple of months ago during IIT Indore s annual student festival FLUXUS. During their visit, our grass-root innovators and the team had familiarized them their innovations and had given them a tangible experience with their innovative products. Due to this, a bond had already developed between the students and the team. So, the discussion at the hostel got intimate very soon. Students started sharing their expectations, their experiences during the last visit, curiosities about the new happenings, etc.; even a few birthdays were celebrated! 2. We then visited their model/craft rooms. The team was amazed at how talented the little students were. We viewed their art pieces/designs that they had put up on display. They were pretty innovative design in themselves. Based on this, a plan was put forwards to conduct summer camps to teach a few new things or to deepen the talent in a few existing ones. Even here, we discussed in detail how to improve the computer skills of students and teachers. Further, we charted a plan to make their model room equipped with working computer and to train them. 3. Then, we visited their dormitories. Their simplistic way of living, making utmost utilization of all that is available to them, impressed the team. Provision for additional amenities like increasing

4. the number of mirrors, better lights and fans, improving ventilation and windows, provision of bed-sheets for the students, etc. was identified as a scope for further improvement. 5. After that, a T-Shirt distribution session was conducted on the behalf of Placement Office, IIT Indore to all the students of the hostel. 6. The team also conducted a quiz session and appreciated the brilliant answers from every student in front of entire group. This motivated them to participate and engage themselves in group discussion in a better way and represent their views and suggestions to the community in large without hesitation. 7. Ultimately, the team was successful in putting forth a genuine attempt to motivate the students to bring about their innovative ideas to the world and create something attractive and worthy for the society. As a sign of victory, we received an honest request from the students to visit them soon and a gesture of wanting to spend more time with us! FUTURE DIRECTIONS OF WORK: Unlike the first school, as this is a hostel, we plan to start with some courses which will be funfilled, interesting but targeted towards skill-development as a mini summer camp. Students ready to volunteer during the summer will be given the liberty to choose one particular area, say mathematics, science, English, etc. and prepare a deliverable curriculum for the course. Postsummer activities will be decided upon after these initial ones and further identification of scope.
