NEW JERSEY STATE INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 1161 Route 130, PO Box 487, Robbinsville, NJ 08691 League/Conference Officers Meeting Summary November 16, 2017 Attendees: Todd Van Orden Bill Schilling Sean Dowling Kevin Murphy Joe Piro Steve Jenkins Sharon Hughes Steve Fortis Ken Schoudt Frank Torcasio Jerry Maietta Jim Peto Stan Fryczynski Brad Bauer Frank Noppenberger Gus Kalikas Anthony Minella Ron Hamride Ann Clifton Steve Gazdek John Maggio Joe McColgan Steve Timko opened up the meeting with an introduction of all the directors and attendees. Presentation Coaches Corner/Dollamur Dollamur is a proud supporter of the NJSIAA. Dollamur wrestling mats are the ultimate American Made mat featuring an anti-microbial surface and high performance closed-cell, crosslinked foam to provide maximum shock absorption. Mats will never harden or shrink allowing them to maintain performance throughout their life. As a corporate sponsor of the NJSIAA Dollamur offers mats a discounted rate to our member schools. For more detailed information visit https://www.dollamur.com/wrestling/ Conference Topics NJAC Sean Dowling Boys Soccer Excessively rough play and how officials are handling it? A discussion ensued on whether or not officials are setting the tone of fair play vs. rough play at the start of the game. The style of play is different in each part of the state. A suggestion was made to try to meet with the officials prior to the start of the game to let them know your expectations. It is not only the officials responsibility to maintain a balance, it is a dual responsibility between the coaches and officials. A recommendation to have officials take a professional development course each year may alleviate some issues. NJAC Sean Dowling Field Hockey OT 10 minutes sudden victory Why is it not split 5 minutes/5 minutes and goalies switch sides? Kim DeGraw Cole has a Field Hockey Rules Committee meeting on November 29, 2017 and will bring this up as a topic of discussion. BNC Sharon Hughes Post-Game Handshake? Why are officials part of it? The handshake is a NFHS Rule and is not required to be done at the end of the game, if teams prefer to have the handshake prior to the start of the game that is permitted.

Girls Soccer - Amount of goals? Any rule on limit? There is no rule in place as to how many goals a team can score, however, after 5 goals the goal differential stays at 5. Steve Timko Report Paul Anzano s Legislative Update had no issue concerning the NJSIAA. With the newlyappointed Governor, Phil Murphy, the NJSIAA may have a better chance to expand steroid testing which Governor Christie has denied in the past. Larry White Report The 2017 Gymnastics Report was provided as a handout. Exciting news to report came at the Individual Championships. Ally Cucich from Red Bank Catholic High School, broke the All-Around record set in 2006 by Chelsea Steinberg of Ridgewood and in 2008 by Austyn Forbes. The old mark was 38.775 and Ally set a new mark of 38.875. The Volleyball Tournament of Champions will be held on November 19, 2017 at William Paterson University Rec Center at 2pm. Please be reminded to inform your coaches at your next League & Conference meeting that the NJSIAA policy states that we will not address any correspondences that come from student athletes in the form of emails, phone calls and the Contact Us feature on our website. A memo was provided as a handout to distribute to your colleagues. An update on the football officials controversy of the Central Jersey Chapter is being handled through their by-laws. The NJSIAA has been notified on what action they want to take, however, we cannot approve or disapprove the decision. At this time we cannot provide any details on this matter. Jack DuBois Report Corporate Sponsor Update, Bollinger and Parisi have both renewed 3 year contracts. Boys Lacrosse Proposal was defeated 156 to 23. Regional Assigning of Officials 2017 Tournaments which looked at any conflicts/concerns during the 2017 Fall Tournaments. Based on the chart, regional assignors are doing a good job of assigning officials for state games. Out of 901 games, only 4 conflicts/concerns.

Michael Zapicchi Report Compliance monitors are out making visits. Schools have been cited for coaches certifications not being up to date. Contact Mike at mzapicchi@njsiaa.org if you need help organizing and keeping track of the certifications. The second meeting of the International Student Committee will be held on November 21, 2017. Send Mike a copy of the I-20 forms for all of your International student athletes. Colleen Maguire Report Colleen introduced Tony Maselli as the new NJSIAA Assistant Director to the League & Conference Officers. A handout was provided with the 2017-2018 Director Responsibilities. A retirement dinner for Steve Timko will be held at the Hamilton Manor on Saturday, January 13, 2017. Invitations have been sent, if you would like to attend please RSVP to Liz Nodeland no later than December 15, 2017. Winter Classifications have been completed and are posted on the website. The Spring Co-op Deadline is February 1, 2018. A handout was provided to each Conference listing schools with unpaid annual dues. She reminded the officers that in order to vote at the annual meeting on December 4, 2017, all dues have to be paid in full. The two special committees have been formed and will meet in December. The Out of Season Coaching committee will be chaired by Brad Bauer, Seneca HS, and Tony Maselli will be the coordinating NJSIAA Director. The Classifications Review committee will be chaired by Dan Vivino, Westwood Regional HS, and Colleen Maguire will be the coordinating NJSIAA Director. Sportsmanship Banners will be distributed at the end of the meeting. To clarify any confusion as to the ballots that were mailed out last week and this week. The first mailing was a polling of the membership schools whether they approve or disapprove of legislation passed by the Executive Committee in 2016-2017. The ballots mailed out this week are the new items which will be voted on at the Annual Meeting on December 4, 2017. Please send your Conference Meeting Dates/Times/Places to Jenny Yelle at jyelle@njsiaa.org. The Directors would like to set up a meeting with each Conference in the next few months. Program Review Bill Bruno: New format for team advancement to the Meet of Champions. Individual qualifiers remain as is. The top 2 teams from each group automatically advance. (12 total teams) Next, the 8 fastest Wildcard teams will qualify thru a merger process. The language of this will be developed over the next few weeks and will be presented for program review and the executive board of the NJSIAA at the January 10, 2018 meeting for approval.

Al Stumpf: Official start of games for golf. The recommendation is to move the 2018 official starting date for games to the last Monday of March. The date would be March 26, 2018. Currently the 2018 official starting date for games is Saturday, March 31, 2018. This would give schools more flexibility and time (due to weather issues in the spring) to get in the required golf matches to reach the 60 percent winning percentage requirement for entry into the State Tournament. The Transgender Policy and NJSIAA Drone Policy passed. The Transgender Policy is following state guidelines and the Drone Policy will be allowed at home schools, further research is required as time passes. Handouts were provided which detailed specific terms to each policy. The next League & Conference Meeting will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018
