Education Week Open Day Save the Date We will be holding our annual Open Morning for Education Week on Wednesday 2 August, including open classrooms and a concert where band, choir and dance group students will perform. A full program will be distributed early next term. Band Festival Last weekend the Training, Intermediate and Concert Bands performed at the Wahroonga Band Festival. All three bands represented our school to a high standard. Special congratulations to the Training Band which was awarded first place in their category. This is a great achievement for these students who have only begun learning their instruments and performing together this year. Instructional Rounds On Monday I was involved in an Instructional Rounds Project with staff members Miss Williams, Miss De Palo and Mrs Pogainis. Instructional Rounds are based on medical rounds for doctors and the idea of using real-life practice for professional learning. The team focuses on a Problem of Practice the school has committed to solve, using lesson observations and the data collected from these to make whole school recommendations. This was our third set of rounds as we ran two sets of rounds last year also. All staff are invited to participate in these projects through an expression of interest process and thus far 11 staff members have been involved. Feedback from all staff who have participated is that it has been a really valuable form of professional learning. Be Respectful. Be Responsible. Strive for Success

Parent Skills database A reminder to please return your Parent Skills Survey this week if you would like your information included in our database. Student Reports for Semester 1 A reminder that Semester 1 student reports will be sent home in sealed envelopes next Wednesday 28 June. At Monday night s P & C meeting changes to our report format were discussed. A letter regarding these changes will be included in the envelope with your child s report. Please look out for your child s report envelope in their bag in Week 10. Anti-Bullying and Discipline Plans At Monday night s P & C meeting Miss Williams and I presented our whole school Anti-Bullying and Discipline policies that have been revised this term through consultation with staff. At the meeting there was an opportunity for parents to review the draft documents and offer input. Once the final versions of these documents are prepared, they will be published on our school website. School Administrative Officer position As per our last newsletter, the Department of Education advised that our School Administrative Officer position would be filled through a transfer match. This appointment has now been finalised and I am pleased to announce Ms Debra De Angelis will be joining Normanhurst Public School from the start of next term. Debra visited yesterday and is excited to be part of our school community.
