Arthur V. Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice Academic Awards 3 13 Eligibility Criteria Field of Study Graduate students enrolled in the University of Manitoba s PhD and Joint Masters Degree in Peace and Conflict Studies are eligible to apply. Academic Standing Students require a minimum GPA of 3.75 in the last sixty credit hours of study at a recognized university based on a Bachelor, Masters or Doctoral Degree. Citizenship All students, regardless of citizenship, are eligible to apply for a Peace and Conflict Studies Academic Award offered by the Arthur V. Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice at St. Paul s College. Canadian citizens and permanent residents and current PACs students are expected to apply for one or more Tri-Council Awards e.g. the Trudeau, Commonwealth, and UMGF scholarships and, as well, other major awards greater than $10,000. International students are expected to apply for UMGF scholarships. Students that do not apply for a national, UMGF, and/or major awards will be ineligible for a Peace and Conflict Studies Academic Award. Basis of Award Full time students are eligible to apply for and receive a Peace and Conflict Studies Academic Award for the first four years of their PhD and for the first two years of the Joint Masters in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Manitoba. Candidates who hold a SSHRC, UMGF, Pierre Trudeau Fellowship, Commonwealth Scholarship or any other significant scholarship would be considered ineligible for a Peace and Conflict Studies Academic Award. General Regulations To hold a Peace and Conflict Studies Academic Award, the PhD or Joint Masters candidate must: Be admitted without provision or have cleared provisional admission or are currently enrolled as a PhD or Joint Masters student in the Peace and Conflict Studies graduate program at the University of Manitoba. Accept the terms and conditions of the Award, as set out in the Notice of Award and in the program description as outlined in the Arthur V. Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice Academic Awards Application Form. Be a member in good standing within the College and University community as stated in the Student Discipline By-Law. Acknowledge, wherever possible, the assistance for research received from St. Paul s College and from the donors of endowment funds such as Dr. Arthur V. Mauro. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75 and not receive any grade below 3.00 (including AUX and occasional courses) in the year in which the award is held. Not be enrolled as a full-time student in two programs simultaneously. Be committed and an active practitioner in the field of peace and conflict studies. A Peace and Conflict Studies Academic Award may be deferred by one term only and no later than January of that academic year. Recipients must decline the Peace and Conflict Studies Academic Award and request that Mauro Centre consider them in the next academic year if they are unable to accept the fellowship upon a January deferral deadline (ie. If the award cannot be taken up in January, after having been deferred from September, then it must be declined). Students must be admitted in the PACS program and all provisions must be cleared to receive the award. Arthur V. Arthur V. Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice Academic Awards Eligibility Criteria 3 14 In addition, Awards may be cancelled without notice if the conditions under which they are granted are violated. Should a graduate student who has received a Peace and Conflict Studies Academic Award be unable to continue full time studies to the satisfaction of the Director of the Mauro Centre the funding will be terminated.
