2018-2019 Translational Breast Cancer Research Traineeship Program APPLICATION DEADLINE: Monday, July 16, 2018 (A) Description This program is made possible by a major donation from the Breast Cancer Society of Canada (BCSC) to the Translational Breast Cancer Research Unit (TBCRU) within the London Regional Cancer Program, as well as donations from other groups interested in supporting translational breast cancer research. The BCSC is strategically moving towards a national Centres of Excellence model for the research units that they support across Canada. The TBCRU s area of research excellence has been identified as advanced cancer/metastasis. In support of this, the purpose of the 2018-2019 Translational Breast Cancer Research Traineeship Program is to provide studentship/fellowship funding for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical fellows engaged in translational research projects focused on the understanding, prevention, tracking and/or treatment of metastatic breast cancer. (B) Value and Duration of Awards Category Value of Award Matching Funds Requirement MSc Graduate Studentship $17,000 n/a PhD Graduate Studentship $18,000 n/a Postdoctoral Fellowship $25,000 $25,000 from supervisor or other source Clinical Fellowship $35,000 $35,000 from supervisor or other source Awards will be made for one (1) calendar year, with a normal start date of September 1, 2018 unless requested otherwise. Competitive renewal applications may be submitted in subsequent years, with evidence of good progress. It is expected that award recipients will make every effort to apply for and obtain national or international funding, thus freeing up funds for other trainees in future years. Trainees who are already recipients of external funding (i.e. OGS, QEIISST, etc.) may apply to TBCRU for a top-up to the above maximum award levels. All tuition costs related to a trainee s education program are the responsibility of the trainee/supervisor/department. Trainees who do not require any funding but would still like to participate in the TBCRU program are invited to send a brief email to TBCRU Director Dr. Alison Allan (alison.allan@lhsc.on.ca) describing their research, its translational applicability to metastatic breast cancer, and their interest in participating in the program.
