Other topics include correlation, simple linear regression, and an introduction to nonparametric statistics. The student will understand the basic principles of designing a study. 2. The student will be demonstrate an understanding of descriptive statistics through performing and interpreting calculations, organizing raw data, and creating graphs and tables to display information, with and without the use of appropriate technology. 3. The student will be able to make sound inferences about a population based on procedures performed on sample data. 4. The student will use appropriate formulas and/or tables to determine the probability of events occurring using basic probability rules, the binomial probability distribution, and the normal probability distribution. 1

If you wish to withdraw from the course, it is your responsibility to go to the Admissions Office and do so officially, or you will receive your calculated course grade. Withdrawal Deadline: Withdrawal Deadline Friday March 21 Your grade is based on three components: tests, quizzes, homework,/group work and discussions, and a comprehensive final exam. You must show your work in all cases in order to receive credit for your answers. Take Home Tests will be given on occasion, watch the faculty website and listen carefully in class for announcements. Dates for the tests and final will be pre-announced. For students who end the semester with no more than 2 absences: if the final exam score is higher than any one test, the final exam score will replace the lowest test score. The final exam will not replace a missed test. Methods of Evaluation: Make-up tests will be given at the discretion of the instructor. You must have my permission to take a make-up test BEFORE the test is given to your class. Call or email me prior to the test date and GET A RESPONSE from me before you make plans to take a make-up test. The instructor may ask the student to supply supporting documentation (such as a doctor s note). 1 make up quiz will be allowed. In-class quizzes will consist of problems that are very similar to the homework exercises. A makeup quiz will be allowed. after supplemental problems and homework have been submitted. Your grade for the course is determined as follows: Tests 55% Quizzes/in- class & THT collected 15% Homework MyMathLab 10% Final Exam 20% 2

For example, all fractions must be reduced. Other specifications will be made in class. If you are disruptive, then I will ask you to leave. Turn off all cell phone ringers and other non-required electronic devices (ipod, mp3, blackberry, etc) before class. I will deduct points from quizzes and exams for ringing or vibrating cell phones. If you are late and I am giving a test/quiz, then you have only the remaining class time to complete the test/quiz, as do the students who were on time. If you are absent for the day in which an assignment is due scan it or email or fax it to me so you have it in on time otherwise it will be given a zero.
