I Mr Hamza Noel Mahoney, the Vocational Advisor at Abdul Rahman Kanoo International School (ARKIS) aim to send out this newsletter to keep you both students and parents up to date with college/university school visits, exhibitions in Bahrain, application deadlines and procedures, scholarship information, pre college/university tests and dates and practice tests, Alumni information and interviews with local professionals from different industries. I have a variety of resources on the wide range of higher educational choices are available to our students after completing their studies at ARKIS from all around the world. I provide a drop-in service which is open during the first and second break times in my office for students; in addition individual appointments after school on Tuesdays are available for both parents and students. I have an open door meeting approach for parents where by you are always welcome to come into the school and meet me at your convenience during school hours and I will do my best to accommodate you. For those students/parents who want to meet with me or attend a workshop on a Tuesday after school should email your confirmation of attendance one day before the meeting/workshop. Important Dates UCAS UK Deadlines All UCAS deadlines for courses in the UK can be found below, but these are two key dates to become familiar with in the UCAS application cycle. 15 October 2018 - All courses at Cambridge and Oxford and most medicine, veterinary medicine and dentistry at all other institutions. 15 January 2019 - All other undergraduate courses. UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) The UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) is an admissions test used by a consortium of UK Universities for their medical and dental degree programmes. The UKCAT helps Universities to select applicants with the most appropriate mental abilities, attitudes and professional behaviours required for new doctors and dentists to be successful in their clinical careers. The UKCAT is a computer-based test delivered in Pearson VUE test centres throughout the UK and internationally. Registration and online booking closes 18 September 2018 at 5pm Bursary deadline 18 September 2018 at 5pm Final booking deadline 1 October 2018 at midday Last testing date 2 October 2018 UCAS application deadline 15 October 2018 Results delivered to universities Early November 2018 BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) gives you the chance to stand out from the crowd and show your potential to succeed on medical and health-related courses. UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) The UKCAT is a compulsory entry requirement for our UK Consortium Universities and our non-uk Associate Member Universities. You are required to sit the test by 2 October 2018 if you are intending to apply for entry in 2019 (or deferred entry in 2020) to a relevant course listed below. UKCAT results cannot be carried over from one year to the next. You should always check the specific entry requirements for each course before booking a test. Tests TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) The TOEFL test measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand North American English as it is spoken, written and heard in College and University settings. Most people who take the TOEFL test are planning to study at Colleges and Universities where instruction is in English. TOEFL is accepted by most Australian, American, Canadian and New Zealand academic institutions. To take the TOEFL test, you can register online at www.ets.org IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Arrange a Meeting Your welcome and meet with me at your convenience during school hours. The IELTS test measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to communicate in English across all four language skills listening, reading, writing and speaking for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication. To take the IELTS test, you can register at www.britishcouncil.bh/en/exam/ielts SAT Reasoning Test (Scholastic Aptitude Test) The SAT Test is a standardized test for college/university admissions; it measures literacy and writing skills that are needed for academic success in college/university. Collegeborad state that the SAT assesses how well the test takers analyse and solve problems skills they learned in school that they will need in college. SAT is accepted by USA and some other academic institutions worldwide.
