Issue 4 20h October 2017 Important Items in this newsletter: Diary Dates Firework Night Sporting News Final Open Evening Class Star of the Week These awards are given out in Celebration Assembly every Friday w/ending 6.10.2017 w/ending RNL Calum Maya 13.10.2017 RMP Louie Ralphie 1EB Nishat Henry 1HS Sky Caitling 2KB Samuel Matthew 2NO Daisy-May Jack 3LS Mikey Lennie 3VT Lorcan Milla 4FM Sienna/Laurie Rose 4CP Jack Faye 5SJ Rudy Julia 5GW Leo Lewis 6HS Maisy Joel 6VW Oliver Jessica Sports Ashton Daniel Forest Bailey & Joel Charlie Dear All The first half term seems to have gone very quickly! This is probably because it has been so busy. We would really like to take this opportunity to thank you for your incredible support. There have been swimming kits, PE kits, Forest School clothes, WOW days and dress down days. The children have been so well prepared for all of these. We realise that it places additional pressures on already busy home lives but the children get so much from these different activities. Forest School will be continuing next half term so we encourage parents to look at the separate newsletter, which is attached to this main newsletter for further details. It is great to see how many children are enjoying the homecooked school meals we are now providing every day. If your child hasn t tried them yet can we encourage you to look up the menu on our website: www.eastbrook.w-sussex.sch.uk As soon as we get back to school after the half term holiday our Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) will be organising one of their major fundraising events: our Firework Night. More details are included later in this newsletter. The PTA are also planning other events for the Autumn Term including a KS1 Film Night and a KS2 Disco, as well as the Annual Christmas Raffle, so please check the diary dates in later issues for further information. We would like to take this opportunity to inform parents that Claire Presland, a member of staff who has been fully involved in the PTA, will be leaving the school at the end of this half term. Mrs Presland has been at our school for 19 years and in that time has supported a wide range of pupils and parents. Her many roles have included: mentoring pupils, supporting on residential trips and leading first aid across the school. She will be missed by all of us and we are sure you will want to join us in wishing her all the best in the future. We are hoping that she will still keep in contact with the school and has already promised to be a major part of the Firework Night! I hope that everyone has an enjoyable half term break and look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 30th October. Julia Sherlock (Headteacher) Cancer Research We are delighted to be able to tell you that Leo, one of our pupils in Year 6, has decided that he would like to fundraise in memory of his granddad. On Wednesday 1st November he is going to dye his hair bright blue and collect donations for Cancer Research. There will be a collection box in school if anyone wishes to support him with this fundraising.

The two runners up were Alice and Charlotte who will both receive a selection of sweets. The PTA have also provided a small prize for every entry. Look out for these posters which will be displayed around school to advertise the event.

Open Evening for New Parents If you know any parents who may be interested in sending their children to our school next year please can you pass the following information on to them about an open evening we will be holding after half term. Open sessions for parents of children starting school in September 2018 We realise that choosing a primary school is an extremely important decision. To help you with this process we would like to invite you to an Open Session at our school. This will give parents an opportunity to see the school and meet key staff. Our next open sessions (for parents) will run on Wednesday 8 th November 5pm (it will last approximately one hour) To book a place please contact our school office by phone 01273 874050 or email office@eastbrook.w-sussex.sch.uk Alternative visits can also be organised if this time is inconvenient. We look forward to welcoming you to our school. Sporting News There have been further sporting successes, including first place in the Tag-Rugby Area Final for the 5/6 team. The Year 3/4 Gymnastic team has been to Shoreham Academy to represent the school in the Cluster Competition and our 5/6 Basketball team came third (on points difference) in their Area Final. We d like to thank all the children who have represented Eastbrook this half term. There have been several judo competitions, including a recent event in Tunbridge Wells which saw Tyler win a gold medal. Miss Johnstone was very proud! Remembrance Poppies Poppies will be on sale after half term with all funds going to the British Legion to support various projects linked to the Armed Forces.
