BURLINGTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Burlington Public Schools is to help all students acquire organized knowledge, master physical and intellectual skills, and understand ideas in ways that foster a positive self-image and lead to lifelong learning, self-sufficiency, and responsible citizenship. Burlington Public Schools Vision The Burlington School Department Vision is striving for excellence and will be accomplished by: 1. Facilitating students ability to achieve their highest potential by providing a rigorous balanced curriculum. 2. Employing highly qualified teachers, administrators and support staff who are committed to the Burlington mission statement. 3. Providing opportunities for community members to participate in school activities to reinforce the goals and advantages of providing quality educational programs for every student. Goal 1: Analyze and Adjust Curriculum to Improve the Capacity of Pine Glen Elementary School 1A. Through shared and distributed leadership, implement curricula to further our alignment of common core expectations in daily instruction. Restructure and utilize the master schedule to support common planning time to develop and review goals for teaching and learning. Implement the new math, writing and grammar programs across grade levels. Pilot a vocabulary program across grade levels. Continue to use assessment data to monitor growth and align and adjust curriculum and instruction. Goal 1: Analyze and Adjust Curriculum to Improve the Capacity of Pine Glen Elementary School 1B. Use assessment data to adjust instructional practice to meet or exceed grade level expectations in English Language Arts, math, and behavior. Follow the district assessment schedule that includes a universal screening tool for English language arts and mathematics -district assessments and checklists. -progress monitoring procedures. -program assessment tools. Review behavioral data to identify areas of success and areas of need. Continue to strengthen a school-wide positive behavior multi-tiered intervention system to maximize a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment. Nurture a pro active and pro-social school environment by collaboratively developing and teaching behavioral expectations and implementing reward systems. Ongoing analysis and identification of behavioral intervention methods and strategies to increase prosocial behavior. Development of 21 st century learner skills using curation to document student growth and achievement. Consistent purchase and updates of hardware, software and website resources approved by the district such as the 1:1 ipad initiative in grades one, four and five. Support the installation and maintenance of all district approved purchases. Monitor and review the efficient and reliable use of technology. Removal of Chandelier on stairway and replaced with new lighting. Requests made to Superintendent and Building and Grounds for approval. Include initiatives in capital improvement school requests.
