1. THE UNIVERSITY. PROSPECTUS FOR THE SESSION 2018-19 The Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) was established in the year 1962 in accordance with the provision of the Orissa Act 20 of 1961 and is a State Agriculture University. It has the triple function of teaching, research and extension. The University offers education at the undergraduate and post graduate level in Agriculture, Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Engineering & Technology, Fishery Science, Home science, Forestry, Horticulture and Basic Sciences. Three Career Oriented Master s Programmes in Computer Science and Application, Bio-informatics and Agri-Business Management are offered by the Centre for Post Graduate Studies as self-financing courses. Research and Extension programme are carried out at the Regional Research and Technology Transfer Station (RRTTS) and/or sub stations/ Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) located in different parts of Odisha. 2. THE COLLEGE OF BASIC SCIENCE & HUMANITIES. The College of Basic Science & Humanities was established in 1964 as the third constituent College of OUAT, Bhubaneswar. The college offers teaching at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. At the UG level, facilities for Honours courses are available in 8 subjects namely, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology, Microbiology and Computer Science. At the Post Graduate level, the college offers Master s degree programme in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Microbiology and Biotechnology. Further, it offers the Ph.D. programme in Microbiology. The B. Sc., M. Sc. and Ph. D. Courses offered are under the semester system. In addition to the above, the college offers supporting courses to the students of other constituent colleges of OUAT. 3. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION. 3.1. For M. Sc. With Honours/Core in Biotechnology/ Botany/ Zoology / Microbiology) Candidates must have obtained minimum 50% marks in concerned Honours/Core/Major subjects. For Graduates of Agriculture and allied subjects who are eligible for admission into M. Sc. (Microbiology), should have minimum 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent. A candidate belonging to SC/ST shall have obtained a minimum of 45% marks in concerned Honours subject.

3.2. For Ph. D. Programme Ph. D. Course Minimum qualification Microbiology M. Sc. in Microbiology from any UGC recognised University with a minimum mark of 65% or OGPA 6.5 in 10.0 point scale. 3.3 Other Eligibility Conditions 3.3.1 Admission in to the Master s Programme is open to the following categories of candidates. i) Those who have passed H.S.C/Equivalent Examination with Odia as MIL ii) iii) iv) Those who did not have Odia as M.I.L but whose parents are permanent residents of Odisha, must furnish evidence of such permanent residency in form of a certificate from the concerned Revenue Officer not below the rank of Class-II. No affidavit to this effect will be entertained under any circumstance. Those who did not have Odia as M.I.L but whose parents are serving under the Govt. of Odisha/ Central Govt./Public Undertaking or any University in the State of Odisha, must furnish in a certificate, to this effect, from the head of the Office/ Institution where his/her parent(s) is working. For Odia permanently residing outside Odisha, the candidate must furnish a certificate to this effect from the District Magistrate of the district of the State in which he/she is residing v) The above stipulations are not applicable to Candidates / Candidates opting for admission to M. 5. RESERVATION. 22.5%, 16% and 05% of seats are reserved for ST, SC and persons with disability (PWD) candidates respectively for P.G. Admission. One seat will be reserved for NRI & Foreign candidates over and above the intake capacity for P.G & Ph. D in Microbiology. NRI: Candidates seeking admission under NRI Quota shall be required to apply in application for sponsorship of candidate along with the photo copies of VISA/proof of permanent residential certificate and PASSPORT of themselves or of the sponsoring persons (Parents / nearest relatives) which are valid till the last date of admission. The signature of the NRI sponsor must be same as in the passport and sponsoring certificate. Photo copy of such VISA & PASSPORT should be uploaded along with its English version issued by competent authority form respective embassy / consulate. The candidate should produce recent proof of Residentship of the NRI Sponsor such as Electric bill / Telephone bill / Water bill etc. of the respective country where he / she is residing at present within last six month. A Non resident Indian (NRI) can Sponsor only one candidate in an academic year. Foreign Candidates: The requirement of minimum percentage of marks / OGPA /GPA as indicated above both in Master and Doctoral Programme shall not be applicable to Foreign candidates sponsored by ICAR/ICCR/any other statutory bodies of Govt. of India. However, the minimum qualification for Masters and Ph.D programme will be Graduation in oncerned/relevant discipline and Masters degree in concerned/relevant discipline respectively. Foreign candidates without any fellowship from ICAR/ICCR/any other statutory bodies of Govt. of India, can directly submit their applications to the University for admission provided the candidate meets the eligibility criteria as per clause 3.1 & 3.2 and possesses valid documents with payment of fees as mentioned in Clause 16 to 19 of the Prospectus. 6. PROCEDURE FOR GETTING PROSPECTUS AND APPLYING ONLINE. 6.1 Prospectus Download: The prospectus may be downloaded from the university website at www.ouat.nic.in or https://www.lokaseba-odisha.in. The candidates are advised to read the prospectus carefully and act accordingly. 6.2 How to fill the Online Form: Opening of the website: Open the website www.ouat.nic.in or https://www.lokasebaodisha.in using any internet browser. Open the Application Form: Click on the link Submission of Online Application Form for Admission into M. Sc. And PhD 2018 (College of Basic Science and Humanities).

Mobile Number Authentication/Registration: Enter the correct mobile number and click Verify Mobile No.. An OTP will be sent to that Mobile number. Type the OTP in the OTP Verification Code box. Then click Verify OTP Code. (Mobile number validation is important because all communication regarding admission will be sent as SMS to the valid mobile number entered by the candidate. The candidate should not change the mobile number till the end of admission process.) Select Program, Course and Qualification: First select Programme from dropdown box. Then select similarly the Course and Qualification from the dropdown box. Remember that every course has its specific Qualification. Fill Applicant Details: Then fill the particulars of the applicant. Aadhar Number is not mandatory, but if you have please fill it. Carefully select the Category. If you are SC/ST then you must have caste certificate from appropriate authority. Fill the Permanent and Present Address: Fill/select address particulars. Other information: If you are claiming for NRI quota, click here and do the needful. Fill Academic Profile: Fill/Select carefully, the High School, Higher Secondary and Graduation degree / Post Graduation degree particulars. Be particularly careful while filling the Total mark and Marks Scored. Any wrong posting will cancel your candidature at any stage of admission process. If your graduation result is not declared yet, still you can apply leaving the mark box empty within the last date of application for admission i.e., 25.06.2018 for P.G. and 14.08.2018 for Ph. D. But you must fill it during the time of editing from 26.06.2018 to 28.06.2018 (Midnight) for PG and on 18.08.2018 (Midnight) for Ph. D. Otherwise your candidature will be rejected. Give domicile information: Do as directed in the form Check Declaration: Candidate must click on self-declaration. By clicking this, the candidate is accepting that all the information he/she has submitted are true, and he/she will be responsible for any false or misleading information. Any false information submitted may make the application liable for rejection. Upload Photograph and Signature: Follow the instruction of uploading given in the form Click on Register and Proceed: You will receive a login ID, password and application No. on your mobile and e-mail ID. Also, the progress page will appear showing application number and steps to be completed. On proceed, three tabs will appear (view application, upload relevant documents and make payment) for necessary action by the applicant. Make Payment: The application fee of Rs.1350/- per application can be paid besides bank charges as specified by the Bank depending upon the mode of payment selected through online payment gateway using Internet Banking / Debit Card/ Credit Card of any bank. Payment can also be made through nearest Common Service Centre (Jana Seva Kendra) in cash mode. Fees, once paid, cannot be refunded to candidates under

any circumstances. Once you pay the fee, you will receive a message confirming the payment. 6.3 Editing the online Application Form: You can edit any particular including Graduation / Post Graduation mark (if result was not declared by the date of application). For this 3 days are given from 26.06.2018 to 28.06.2018 mid night for PG and one day is given on 18.08.2018 for Ph. D. 6.4 Download of Admit Card: When the admit card is ready an SMS will be sent to your mobile. The Admit Card can be downloaded from the website (www.ouat.nic.in or https://www.lokaseba-odisha.in) by logging in using his/her login ID and Password. The admit card will never be sent through post. The candidate must bring the Admit card with any of the following original identity proof to the Entrance Examination Centre for verification. 1. Aadhar Card 2. Passport 3. Driving License 6.5. Intimation-cum-Rank Card Download: When Intimation is ready, an SMS will be sent to your mobile. You will login using the login ID and Password given to you and download the intimation letter. Intimation letter will never be sent through post. 6.6. Important Information. 1. Candidates must submit the application with application Fee within the last date of submission of application form i.e. 25.06.2018 for P.G. and 14.8.2018 for Ph.D. Application without fee will not be considered for entrance examination and admission. 2. After successful payment, the candidate should take printout of computer generated filled in Application Form with payment detail for his/her personal record 3 You must have your own personal e-mail ID and Mobile Number with validity till the completion of the Admission process, all important information on login ID, password, application number, various alerts and download of Admit card, rank and Intimation-cumrank card and other necessary information will be sent to you only by SMS and email. Under no circumstances, you should share the password of your e-mail ID and Mobile/Cell Number with any other person. If you do not have a valid e-mail ID, please create a new e-mail ID. You will be provided with a login ID and password to login on to the website www.ouat.nic.in/ https://www.lokaseba-odisha.in for all future references. Your Admit Card, rank and intimation-cum-rank card can be accessed online by using the links provided in the website www.ouat.nic.in / https://www.lokaseba-odisha.in. No separate physical communication would be sent. 4 A candidate is required to submit one application for each subject for which he/she wishes to be considered for admission.

5. The data obtained from the candidate while applying online will be used for the purpose of generating Admit Card for Entrance Examination. Hence the applicants are advised to submit data accurately as required while applying online. 6. Hard copy of application must should not be sent to OUAT. 7. The University will not be liable to refund the application fees deposited by the candidate. 7. SELECTION OF CANDIDATES 7.1 There shall be an admission Board for the Academic Session with Dean, Post Graduate Faculty-cum-Director Resident Instructions as Chairman and Director, College of Basic Science & Humanities as one of the members. Three teachers, from the College of Basic Science & Humanities as nominated by the Vice Chancellor shall be the members of the board. The admission board will scrutinize the application forms, prepare the merit list and will conduct the admission of the candidates. 7.2 The selection for admission into different Post Graduate programmes except M.Sc. Microbiology and Biotechnology will be based on entrance examination and career marks of the candidates. For M.Sc. Microbiology & Biotechnology only career marks will be considered. 7.3 Entrance Examination: P.G. & Ph. D candidates have to appear in the entrance examination in the College of Basic Science and Humanities, O.U.A.T on 02.07.2018, at 11.00am to 1.00pm and 25.08.2018 at 11.00am to 1.00pm respectively. The examination will be of 2 hours duration and will carry 200 marks. The questions will be of objective type with multiple choice covering the course taught at Bachelor s and Master s Level respectively. For every correctly answered question 4 marks will be awarded. For every wrongly answered question -1 mark will be awarded. For every un-attempted question 0 mark will be awarded. All candidates fulfilling the minimum eligibility will download admit card and will appear in the entrance examination. No candidate shall be allowed to enter the examination hall without admit card and identity proof as mentioned in the section 6.4. 7.4 Exemption from Entrance Examination for Ph.D. programme: ICAR candidates for Microbiology are exempted from appearing the Ph. D. entrance. 7.5 The selection for admission into different Masters or Doctoral Programme will be based on merit of the candidates. There will be separate Merit Lists for each subject of Master s and Doctoral Programmes. 7.6 Merit list of the candidates shall be drawn up on the basis of the total score as following. 7.7 Academic career The following percentage of marks secured by the candidates in different examinations shall be added to the marks of the entrance examinations to compute the merit of the candidate as following. ADMISSION PROCEDURE (P.G.) 8.1 Admission into all Post Graduate subjects will be conducted centrally by the Admission Board in phased manner as per the programme finalized by the academic council. 8.2 The merit list of the candidates for admission will be notified in the University and College notice boards by the Dean, PGF cum DRI and will be floated in OUAT web site www.ouat.nic.in and https://www.lokaseba-odisha.in. Intimation for admission will not be sent by post. 8.3 In the event of any change in the scheduled date of admission the same will be notified in the Notice Boards of the University and the College as well as in the website for information of the candidates. This will also be sent to your mobile as SMS and to your email. 8.4 A candidate who fails to appear for admission on the scheduled date, time and place will automatically and irrevocably forfeit his/her claim for admission. 8.5 The candidates coming for admission should bring with them all the original certificates and mark sheets for verification at the time of admission. Any discrepancy found between marks posted in on-line application form and original mark sheet / Certificate during the verification, the candidature will be out rightly rejected. They have to submit their college leaving certificate and conduct certificate (if the same is not mentioned in the CLC) in original from the head of the institution last attended. 8.6 Candidates who passed their Bachelor s degree from any university other than OUAT will have to submit their Migration certificate within 3 months, failing which they will not be allowed to appear the final examination of 1 st semester of 1 st year Master Degree. 8.7 Candidates who fail to submit their college leaving certificate/ conduct certificate will be provisionally admitted and will be allowed five working days following the date of admission on an undertaking for submission of such documents failing which their provisional admission

will be cancelled if not decided otherwise. Candidate coming from Universities outside the state of Odisha will be allowed for the purpose, ten working days following the date of admission on the same condition as above. 8.8 All candidates selected for admission to P.G. course programme shall submit the Medical fitness certificate in prescribed form at the time of Admission. 8.9 In case the candidate for admission is found to have indulged in ragging in the past or if it is noticed that (s) he has indulged in ragging, admission will be refused or (s) he shall be expelled from the college and University. 8.10 The original documents like CLC, Migration, Conduct, etc submitted at the time of admission as required will not be returned to the candidates even temporarily under any circumstance. However a certified copy of the same may be given on payment of Rs. 10/- for each such document. The caste certificate in original will be returned to the candidate concerned retaining Xerox copy duly attested by a Gazetted officer or a Faculty member of the University. 9. The maximum permissible period for completion of a Masters degree is four consecutive years. 10.1.2 An academic year consists of two semesters each having about 95 to 105 working days out of which teaching programme shall be at least 95 net instruction days excluding examination days. 10.2 Course Programme, Instruction and Evaluation 10.2.1 The instruction is offered in English under course credit system. Each course is divided into distinct units of courses. Each student admitted into a course programme shall take courses as per the plan of course programme. 10.2.2 The course programme and examination will be regulated by the Semester regulations for Masters Programme of OUAT. 10.2.3 A student is required to have a minimum of 85% attendance in each course failing which he /she shall not be allowed to appear at the final Examination and will be detained in that semester, subject to regulation for condonation up to 15% by the Director of the College. 12. G and Ph. D students on merit basis subject to availability of seats. After admission, the students shall apply to the Dean, Students Welfare (DSW) through the concerned Dean / Director of the College for their stay in a hostel. However, a student whose parents are staying at Bhubaneswar may be allowed by the DSW for permission to stay outside the hostel during the course of his / her study. 12.2 The University runs a Dispensary manned by experienced doctors and it provides outstanding treatment to students of the University. 13 STUDENT ACTIVITIES. 13.1 Students union: The students union comprising of students representatives is formed every year in the college to organize cultural/ athletic / sport activities. The students are also allowed to participate in various inter college and inter university competitions at state and national level to show their performances in extra curricular activities. 13.2 Students welfare: The Dean of students Welfare looks after the extra curricular activities of the students. The university Employment information and Guidance Bureau acts as a useful channel of communication between the students and employment organizations. 14 STUDENTS DISCIPLINE. A student shall abide by the disciplinary rules and Regulations of the college and the University and shall not involve himself / herself in any objectionable conduct such as violation of discipline, disobedience of instructions of authorities, immoral conduct or disorderly behaviour including ragging. In case a student is found to be involved in any of the above undesirable activities, he/she shall be liable for expulsion from the College if the offence is grave.
