High School Diplomas Standard Diploma-student meets all graduation requirements and pass all sections of the Ohio Graduation Test. Honors Diploma-a student who completes the college preparatory curriculum shall meet 7 or 8 specified criteria.

Honor s Diploma Criteria Earn 4 credits of English. Earn 4 credits of math including Alg. I, Alg. II, and Geometry or higher math. Earn at least 4 credits of science including 1 credit of Physics and 1 credit of Chemistry. Earn at least 4 credits of social studies. Earn 3 credits of one foreign language or 2 credits of two foreign languages.

Honor s Diploma Continued Earn 1 credit in Fine Arts. Maintain an overall high school grade point average of at least a 3.5 unweighted. Obtain a 27 on the ACT or a 1210 on the SAT.

Ohio Graduation Test Students must pass all 5 sections of the OGT to graduate. (Or the subject area end of course exam given each spring) Math Science Social Studies Reading Writing

Alternate Pathway Only failed 1 test by 10 points or less. Has a 97% attendance rate, excluding excused absences. Has not been expelled from high school. Has a 2.5 GPA in the subject area of test failed. Has completed all other high school curriculum requirements in the subject area of failed test. Has attended any intervention programs offered by the school with a 97% attendance rate. Holds a letter of recommendation from all teachers in the subject area of failed test and the principal.

Pass/Fail Option Students may take up to 1 credit of elective courses in the departments of technology, art, theatre, service learning, business, music. In addition, student may take physical education as pass/fail. Courses taken as pass/fail will receive graduation credit and will be counted towards eligibility. To take a class pass/fail must be done within the first four weeks of a semester. Pass/Fail forms are available in the counseling office and must be signed by the teacher. To receive credit for a pass/fail course, a student must earn at least a D- or 60%. A student choosing the letter grade option (A, B, C, D, F) must do so by the end of the course.

Dual Credit and College Credit Plus Classes The College Credit Plus program (CCP) offers qualified high school students on-site access to directly transcripted credit through dual-credit. Students passing CCP classes will receive both high school and college credit for the course at no cost and without taking an exit exam. Students may enroll in college courses at their high school buildings, at local college campuses, or online. Classes may be taught by college faculty or Pickerington faculty with proper credentials.

High School Credit for College Credit Plus (CCP) CCP classes will count for high school credit, with certain classes counting as replacements for courses required for graduation. Check the Registration Guide (link) for specific courses. CCP Parent/Student meeting is February 17, at 7pm in the PHSC Performing Arts Center

Choosing Electives Look at prerequisites. Consider class load. Consider what you enjoy doing. Always choose the most rigorous classes that you can handle including Honors, Advanced Placement Courses and CCP classes.

Foreign Language Consider the following: Most colleges require 2 years of the same foreign language. AP Languages are available in French, Spanish and German CCP Spanish and French Honors diploma requires 3 years of one or 2 years of two. Student must meet language proficiency requirements to move to the next level.

New School Day Schedule for 2016-17 Each school day will consist of 26 (15 minute) mods. Lunch will be 2 mods. (30 minutes) Most classes will be 3 mods (45 minutes) Most lab and AP classes will be 4 mods (1 hour). The length of each class is indicated on the course registration worksheet. Study halls can be 1-3 mods (15 min to 45 min). A full time schedule is 6 classes each semester.

Important Reminders: Registration deadline is March 11th. If you do not complete your online registration by the deadline or you do not choose enough classes, your counselor will create your schedule or add classes. Remember, there is a district schedule change policy. You will find it in the course guide at (link). You will NOT be allowed to drop a class because you change your mind, to change lunch periods, or to request a teacher change. Students do NOT need to request study hall or lunch. Those will be added automatically. You will receive a verification of the classes you choose after spring break.
