Selected youth, ages 14-18 (as of September 1, 2018), will be trained by Broward County 4-H staff to work alongside caring adults to teach environmental education programs to youth in grades 3-8. Applicants should: - be excited about environmental sciences and about fostering learning in younger youth - have experience working with younger children - be able to communicate clearly and in a professional manner not only with younger audiences but also with 4-H staff, teachers/afterschool staff and adult volunteers, and fellow Teen Techers - have access to reliable transportation for volunteer opportunities throughout Broward County Participating in the Teen as Teachers program will require youth to: - Submit the Teens as Teachers Application to the 4-H Office by August 13, 2018 - Submit a copy of the most recent report card with the application - Have two (2) letters or recommendation from non-family members submitted to the 4-H Office. These letters should be submitted to the office directly from the individual writing the recommendation and include their contact information in the letter. - Attend 2 days of training (dates TBD) at the UF/IFAS Broward County Extension Education Office in Davie, FL - Complete at least 20 hours of teaching with 4-H programs between the dates of July 1, 2018 December 7, 2018. Participation Requirements Participating in the Teen as Teachers program will require you to attend two training days (dates TBD) in Davie, FL, and complete at least 40 hours of teaching with 4-H programs between the dates of July 1, 2018 January 31, 2019. These programs may take place during the summer, weekend, afterschool, or schools hours. Will you be able to attend both training days?
