Final Exam Guidelines - June 2018 High Schools (Grades 9-12) 1. For the Senior exam days (June 6, 7, 8, 11, 12), examinations should be administered during extended blocks at the beginning of the day since travel buses will run the regular school schedule on those days. 2. For instructions on the SOL Incentive Plan, refer to the attached plan. 3. The standard of a 93 for an A and 83 for a B are required for conditions a, b, and c of the Final Exam Exemption Policy. 4. The examination grade shall count no more than 1/5 of the semester grade. 5. ]There will be no early dismissal for seniors on June 6. There will be early dismissals for seniors on June 7, 8, 11, and 12 at 11:45 a.m. 6. Early dismissal for grades 9-11 will be at 11:45 on June 13-15. No lunch will be served. 7. CTE, STAT and CGS exams and travel will continue to the last day. Students who pass an SOL assessment shall be exempt from the final exam for the applicable course. 2. The principal may exercise discretion regarding student final grades of 59 or below. For purposes of calculating final grades, the first semester grade may not be lower than 50 (Regulation 3601). 3. Students must pass both the English: Writing and the English: Reading, Literature and Research SOL assessments in order to exempt the English final exam. 4. Students who meet the criteria for exam exemption may, upon request, take the applicable final exam without risk. 5. This plan does not apply to those students re-taking assessments through remediation recovery. This plan also does not apply to those students who are repeating a course and have passed the applicable SOL test in a prior year. 6. Students who have previously earned a passing score on an SOL assessment may not re-take the test in order to achieve a higher score. 7. Students who have earned a passing score on a Standards of Learning Assessment in a prior year, but are repeating the course due to their failure of the course or their choice to delete the course from the academic transcript, are eligible under the exam exemption policy only. Students may not re-take the test. 8. Transfer students are not eligible for the incentive if they took the applicable course in a prior year. Final Exam Exemption Criteria 1. The student has maintained an A average (93) in a specific course for the entire term of the course and has not been suspended out of school; or 2. The student in grades 9-11 who has been absent from class two or less days, has not been suspended out of school, and has maintained a B average (83) for the entire term of the course; or 3. The student in grade 12 who has been absent from class three or less days, has not been suspended out of school, and has maintained a B average (83) for the entire term of ;the course; or 4. The student in a course with an SOL test passed the SOL test. 5. Students enrolled in college-credit classes will be required to take final examinations if required for college credit. 6. Middle School students taking 9th grade credit courses will be entitled to the exemption options in those respective courses. 1

Please call the parents of students who are expected to but do not show up for an exam. Expectation IS Student and Parent Notification - If the student Does NOT make up the exam by 2:00 pm on June 13, the exam grade will be entered as a 0. Wednesday June 13 is the Make Up Exam day for seniors. Thursday and Friday, June 14 and 15 are graduation practice days for seniors. Upon Conclusion of their Exams, seniors are to exit the building unless involved in meeting with a teacher(s) regarding final exams or graduation practice. 2
