Edinburgh College Character... through Nurture, Learning and Service T2 Week 5, May 16, 2018 The Laws of Physics Year 12 physics students enjoyed some time at Luna Park to apply their knowledge of the laws of physics that govern motion. Students crammed as many rides as possible into the four hour visit including The Enterprise, Power Surge, Scenic Railway, Coney Drop and many more. They were able to experience the effects of circular motion, weightlessness, conservation of energy and conservation of momentum in a very real sense. It became quite evident to the students that it was not always the flimsy seatbelts that held them in place during their ride, but rather the laws of physics! Getting a glimpse into how this field governs our everyday activities, allowed them to realise just what a force of nature (no pun intended) this subject is. - Mr Croft Science Enrichment Program Continues at Edinburgh College Over the past 3 terms, over 400 students from surrounding Primary schools have participated in our Secondary Science Enrichment Program. Last week we had over 50 Year 3-6 students from Pembroke Primary School enjoy an hour of hands on science with Mr Croft, Mrs de Beer and a number of our Year 7-12 science students, who were leading out in the eight rotating experiments. The experiments focus on either electricity or solid, liquid, gas and plasma - via dry ice. During Terms 3 and 4, we will continue to run these enrichment programs in our Science Department. We currently have two more local primary schools expressing an interest in participating in this opportunity. Today, we are running this program for the local home-schooling community. CHALLENGE #5 Daily Challenge : Focus on what went well in your day. Reflect on why the day went well. Weekly Challenge : Gratitude Visit. Think about someone who has had a significant and positive impact on your life and write it down in a few paragraphs. Share your thoughts with that person. Are you still enjoying at least one sunrise a week, sharing compliments, learning an inspirational text or saying, fitting in a weekly resistance training session and striving to exercise 30 minutes or more each day? edinburghcollege.vic.edu.au T: 9728 2211 A member of Adventist Schools Australia

Tests Prepare Us for Greater Works NAPLAN even just the word can conjure up anxiety, heart palpitations and sweaty palms in many of our students. The nation-wide tests are intended to provide parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. They also provide schools, states and territories with information about how education programs are working and which areas need to be prioritised for improvement. Thankfully these tests are only one aspect of a student s life, and do not replace the ongoing assessments made by their classroom teachers. Did you realise there is a far greater test that we each face daily? Because God has incredible plans for us, He allows us to be tested in preparation for these great works, just like tests in school. Believing in God means we can face any test with confidence, knowing that He wants us to accomplish all that He has planned for us. If we enter into Jeremiah 29:11 these tests with the For I know the plans I have for you, right attitude, are predeclares the Lord, plans to prosper you pared to be obedient, and not to harm you, plans to give you hope have faith that God will and a future. be our guide in all that Psalm 32:8 we do for His glory, then The Lord says I will guide you along the He promises we will best pathway for your life. I will advise you succeed in all that we and watch over you. do. NAPLAN is vital, but which test will give long-lasting and eternal rewards? How are you preparing for this test? - Mrs Pascoe Join Edinburgh College May 23 ABC s Stargazing Live World Record Attempt bronwyn.debeer@ec.vic.edu.au On May 23 Edinburgh College is participating in the ABC's Stargazing Live World Record attempt.
