Language Arts In English 9-12, we currently have 13 students engage in a course and 3 additional requested. All of these students are engaged in these courses for Credit Recovery. 1 student engaged in a Short Stories course. 2 students engaged in a Creative Writing course. Mathematics 1 Algebra I student engaged and 5 students engaged in an Algebra II course. All 6 of these students are engaged for Credit Recovery.
Social Studies There are 2 students engaged in US History(both Credit Recovery), 7 students engaged in Government(1 Credit Recovery), 3 students engaged in World History and 3 students engaged in Geography(all Credit Recovery). Science There are currently 2 students engage in Biology for Credit Recovery.
Various other disciplines include: 3 students engaged in French who could not fit these courses into their schedules, 1 student engage in German because we don t offer it at MGHS, and 2 students engage in an American Sign Language course which we don t offer.
We currently have 44 students engaged in 55 different classes. 32 of these students are engaged for the purpose of Credit Recovery this semester. 12 students are engaged for a reason other than Credit Recovery which include: Scheduling conflicts, courses not offered at MGHS, accelerated acquisition of credits, and to create an open space in future schedules for desired electives.
Cost for a class is $250.00 that MGUSC and MGHS is paying for our students and parents. We are currently discussing ideas and avenues to cover the cost as the requests for classes and ensuing cost will be more than we will be able to assume. Requests for online classes has quickly exceeded our expectations. Incidental costs that were not anticipated included the need for a printer, headsets, and the ability to utilize Skype for video communication. The pursuit of grants, Corporate Donors, and alternative methods for covering costs is being discussed. Charging our students and families the entire or partial fee for a class may be a consideration as well.
In less than 9 weeks of school we have had 3 students successfully complete an online course with grades of an A, B+, and a B Several more students are closing in on finals and will be completing their courses in the next few weeks. MGHS and MGUSC are soon to be featured and recognized in a Wayne Township advertisement campaign touting the benefits of online courses. This is a tremendous benefit to our students. It is a positive reflection on our school, school corporation and our community. Mr. Anthony Dockrey has been instrumental in the success of our students working to attain online credits.
