Teacher App The Teacher App includes many helpful resources. At the top of the screen, you will see a dropdown menu for the five developmental spelling stages. The menu next to it includes the sorts, which are grouped in sets of five. You can also navigate to the sorts using the arrows here. Under the spelling stages drop-down menu, click All Books to see the directions for administrating the Qualitative Spelling Inventories. The inventories help teachers group their students in the appropriate developmental levels. Six main tabs appear at all times along the bottom of the screen: Planner, Sorts, Assignments, Library, Messages, and Connect. Let s take a minute to learn more about each tab. The Steps of a Sort Each sort in Words Their Way: Word Study in Action follows this four-step lesson plan: Introduce, Practice, Apply, and Extend. During Introduce the Sort, the teacher introduces the sort with a rhyme or sort activity. During Practice the Sort, the teacher models each sort and then assigns independent practice. During Apply the Sort, students demonstrate what they ve learned with a writing activity. They can type in the digital Notebook in the Student App or write in the consumable print student book. Students in the first three spelling stages can also complete a Word Hunt in a Words Their Way library book. During Extend the Activity, the teacher extends the activity with vocabulary building, alternative sorts, and bonus words. Copyright 2017 by Pearson Education, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 11

You can also broadcast the lesson to the students devices. This will turn the Broadcast button green to indicate this feature is on. Finally, you can use the Expand option to make the teaching content larger on your device. Copyright 2017 by Pearson Education, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 12
