NEWS OF THE BULLDOGS! The Dodge Dispatch VOLUME 14 ISSUE #6 OCTOBERR 3, 2016 Food for celebrations The Federal School Lunch Program prevents us from selling or providing lunch for students during school lunch time. There is to be no competition with the Federal lunch program from vending machines, fundraisers, or parents bringing in food for groups of students. Parents can bring food for their child only, but we are not allowed to have parents bring in food to provide for groups of students. This includes bringing pizza, cupcakes, Eegees, or any other type of food as part of a celebration for birthdays or other events. If you want to bring cupcakes to celebrate a birthday it would have to take place after the school day is over at 3:50 pm. Please do not bring in food for students during lunch time. If you want to bring lunch for your child only, then you may do that. Awards Assembly On Friday, October 21, 2016 at 2:50 pm, we will have our 1st quarter awards assembly in the cafeteria. Students will receive certificates and incentives for Gold Honor Roll (4.0), Silver Honor Roll (3.5 to 3.99), and Bronze Honor Roll (3.0 to 3.49). We will recognize the Dodge Kind Campus Recipients during our assembly. In addition those students who have had perfect attendance will also be recognized. Teachers will draw names for incentives for good behavior as well. Parents are invited to attend the ceremony. P A G E 2 Dodge band and orchestra The first Band and Orchestra Concert of the 2016-2017 School year was held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 6:30 pm. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came to Dodge to enjoy the concert. Parents, there is a terrific website for you to connect with Safe, Smart & Social https:// safesmartsocial.com. This site will remind us all about helping each other have productive screen time. How many times have you picked up your phone, ipad, or laptop planning to just glance and then realize that it has been longer than 5 minutes? It s so easy to get hooked on our various media and lose track of time. Two easy ways to help your child continue to build relationships is to limit screen time for the week; to have no media during family meals; and to model restraint ourselves. Please take an active role in helping your child learn to have productive screen time by reading the article about 7 ways you can teach them. FALL BREAK October 10th to 14th During the Fall Break, Monday, 10/10 to Friday, 10/14, is a perfect time for students to clean out their backpacks and organize their materials. Also, students should continue to read daily during break; it is the number one skill that we continue to develop and is used in all subjects make it a family project. The second quarter starts on October 17. We will have our Fall Dance on October 20, 2016 the first week back from Fall Break.

P A G E 3 VIP parking The Dodge VIP parking space will be available to bid on during the Silent Auction during the Fall Carnival on November 4, 2016. The space will go to the highest bidder and this space is reserved during all events at Dodge Traditional Magnet Middle School. The space is located on the south side of the center island in the west parking lot. Don t forget to bid at the Silent Auction. Join Dodge Chess Program Chess is back at Dodge Traditional Magnet Middle School. Students are learning how to play Chess and honing their strategies during the Chess Program. Thank you to Ms. Barsevich and Mrs. Langrehr for being the sponsors of the Dodge Chess Program. We are working to hire a Chess instructor, Mr. Gludt, who will work with students to teach them. The costs is $10.00 to join the Chess Program and you must have your parent permission form completed in order to participate. Come out and join the fun! Pick-up after school Dodge Students who are staying after school on Monday for Detention or for Targeted Tutorial on Monday as well as those who stay on Tuesday and Thursday for regular Tutorial are to be picked up on the east side of Campus near the Bus Bay on Sahuara. Any student who is not picked up by 5:10 pm when the late activity bus leaves will be required to take the activity bus home. We have changed this policy because we are having far too many students who are not being picked up on time. Some families are not arriving to pick-up students until 5:30 pm or later and it is not fair to expect teachers to wait with students this late after the school activity is done. Please make sure that you come to the east side of campus to pick-up for these highlighted activities. All sports are picked up in the parking lot and the coach is to supervise all students until pick-up. Please do not use the parking lot next door for student pick-up.

P A G E 4 Dodge Fall carnival Our Fall Carnival is scheduled for November 4, 2016 and we need your help. We are looking for volunteers to help set-up, run booths, and clean up after the carnival. If you have not yet volunteered for a time slot please use the following link to sign-up. We are currently contacting local businesses for donations for our silent auction and teacher baskets. If you can make a donation or you can ask someone you know for a donation to benefit the Dodge Carnival please do so. We are asking families to make donations to help with the Carnival. Sixth graders families are asked to donate cases of water. Seventh graders families are asked to donate twelve pack or cases of soda in cans. The soda and water can be brought to the office as soon as possible. Eighth graders families are asked to donate baked goods. These baked goods should be packaged individually and be brought the day of the event. The proceeds that are raised from this event go to the PAC which is used to purchase incentives for students honor role, funding the Spelling Bee and Geography Bee, and to pay for resources used in the classroom. Please call us at 731-4100 to tell us how you can help support the Dodge Middle School Carnival. Dodge clean-up day! Thank you to those families who showed up on September 24th for the clean-up day. We were able to clean out three areas. The Theater and Chorus class has some new shelving in the storage room to help them keep music and props organized. We were able to clean out the storage room across from the Science classrooms in the eighth grade hallway. All of the PAC records were organized and stored. The snack bar area was cleaned and organized for the PAC as well. Thank you to Mrs. Schulter, Mrs. Sanders, Mrs. Winkle, Mrs. Quinones, and Mrs. Bazan for their help with our projects plus the help of all the amazing Dodge students who were present. We will have our next Dodge Clean-up on Saturday, October 29th in preparation for the Dodge Fall Carnival. We hope to see you there!
