Our campus The University of Roehampton has its roots in the traditions of its four colleges Digby Stuart, Froebel, Southlands and Whitelands which were all formed in the 19th century. Roehampton is a collegiate university, where a group of historic colleges have been brought together to create a beautiful 54-acre parkland campus, with classic listed buildings alongside modern, cutting-edge facilities. Our campus helps us provide a close-knit community feel for our students, who each belong to one of the four colleges. By being part of a college, whether you live on campus or not, you ll experience a real sense of community and benefit from the support available. 8 roehampton.ac.uk/pathway Each college has a thriving social scene and its own sports teams; they help create a healthy sense of competition and college pride. Your college will become your local community at Roehampton, a place where you belong. Digby Stuart College Digby Stuart College owes its existence to the Society of the Sacred Heart, an order of French Sisters who came over to England in 1842. The rich history of the Society in the education of women, and the dedication to issues of social justice and equality, now provides our college with a common concern for fostering a kind and loving community, where we welcome students of all faiths or none. It is now home to the following departments: Drama, Theatre and Performance English and Creative Writing Humanities Social Sciences Froebel College Froebel College is one of the oldest higher education establishments in the United Kingdom, having been founded in 1892. The College takes its name from Friedrich Froebel, a German educational pioneer, who encouraged the use of play as an important part of a child s development. It is now home to the following departments: Dance Education Southlands College Southlands was founded in 1872 to train women to teach in Methodist schools in some of the poorest parts of Britain. The College today welcomes all people as students, building on its history by encouraging young people to develop strong values and to grow as future leaders for their communities. Our performance spaces make Southlands the hub for musical activity. Rebuilt completely in the 1990s, Southlands has wonderful facilities that sit around a large, green quad, which our students love. Our performance spaces make Southlands the hub for musical activity across the university and from our Methodist chapel and Muslim prayer rooms our chaplains run worship and community events throughout the year. It is now home to the following departments: Business Media, Culture and Language Whitelands College Whitelands is the oldest of the four colleges, founded in 1841 by the Church of England, and was the first institution in England to provide higher education for women. We celebrated our 175th anniversary in 2016. Whitelands continues its close association with the Church, whilst welcoming students and staff of all faiths or none. It is now home to the following departments: Life Sciences Psychology You can find out more about being part of a collegiate university here: roehampton.ac.uk/colleges 9

It also houses other specialist collections such as The Centre for Marian Studies, a collection of resources covering all matters regarding the Virgin Mary, the Queen s Archive which features material on authority and governance within the Roman Catholic Church in the UK, as well as the Jewish Resource Centre collection. Innovative learning spaces The new library enhances the working environment. It has a range of spaces to meet the numerous types of teaching and learning, from individual quiet spaces through to larger areas for group working. The garden-café overlooking the Digby Stuart College lake provides study spaces as well as sofas for those wanting to relax or meet informally. IT provision is provided throughout the library to enable you to work in areas that suit your needs. A reading room is also designated specifically to our special collections and the Library hosts a series of exhibitions to make its collections accessible to students, staff and the public. The government from home recommend the University of Roehampton for my subject. Two of my friends graduated from here and they really enjoyed it. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We work in groups which means I can improve my English really quickly. The teachers help us to improve our general essay writing to help us for our postgraduate study. Assad Althunayyan Saudi Arabia The University of Roehampton has a similar atmosphere to the university where I previously studied in Japan. Everyone is friendly and it s so peaceful and open. I love nature and the green space means I can relax after lessons. I like where it is located as I can easily get into London as well. Nao Kashiwa Japan 36 roehampton.ac.uk/pathway 37
