SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDATIONS January 2015 1. This is a summary of the recommended changes. It may be necessary to thoroughly review the Coaches Advisory Committee minutes to fully understand the proposals. 2. Various groups taking action on these proposals should make a motion to support or deny the proposal as presented by the Coaches Advisory Committee or modify the proposal and vote accordingly. SOCCER 1. Recommend an increase in the number of allowed days for multiple practices in a day from 7 to 10 -- acclimatization plan. Sports Advisory 14-0* Advisory Council _Yes 16-0 *After 10 days of practices, schools may utilize the alternating day format (ie: short/long day) or the one practice per day format (ie: 2.5 hour maximum). 2. Recommend an increase in the total allowed minutes of play per day from 160 to 180 (adjusted to meet the current 45 minute halves). Recommend the soccer brackets be set in the large-grouping design -- no voting allowed. To accommodate travel, seeds 13-16 would be placed into the bracket based on geography rather than seed order to lessen the possibilities of long trips. Recommend that if a school misses the entry deadline for the sectional meet, the reimbursement for those teams/individuals would be withheld if the team/individual advances to the State Meet. The WIAA will issue a letter of reprimand to those schools that miss the deadline.

Recommend the WIAA staff wait to post the sectional assignments until all sites in a division have been determined and attempt to provide better geographic distribution. Recommend that the current interpretation read: an exception is that varsity, JV and freshmen coaches may have coaching contact with students that have completed 8th grade up until these 8th graders actually start their 9th grade year. Recommend two designated coaches be allowed to coach during competition. The head coach and assistant coach need to be under contract with the school as golf coaches. Recommend the sectional team winner host the second place team, in each sectional, using three set matches on the Tuesday following Sectionals. Recommend relay seed times should consist of the actual best achieved times of the students listed, not the fastest season relay time. Recommend the following change to the current language: 4) School-submitted team entries after the deadline date or time will be permitted to compete. but will not receive consideration for seeds lanes, heats, sections, etc. 5) Omitted entries may be added to the sectional entry list with approval of the WIAA office. The deadline for adding omitted athletes or relay teams is the conclusion of the coaches meeting conducted prior to the start of the Sectional meet. The added athlete(s)/relay team(s) will not be seeded. The penalty will be loss of per diem for each athlete advancing to the State Meet and a letter of reprimand to the school. The following criteria would apply: (a) 18 individual entries has not been met. (b) Cannot replace a previously entered athlete. (c) Relay team was omitted. (d) Athletes may not be switched from one event to another. 6) A team that enters more than 18 entries must scratch any individual who is entered incorrectly (i.e., more than four total events, more than two individual events, etc.). 7) The event that will be scratched is the one that exceeds the allowed maximum following the published order of events. Example: John Smith is entered in Diving, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle, 50 Freestyle, and 400 Freestyle Relay. John Smith will automatically be scratched from the 50 Freestyle. Page 4 FOOTBALL 1. Recommend a football staff be allowed to view the video and then test as a group, with the athletic director verifying the staff in attendance. Those coaches not in attendance would be required to complete the requirements on their own. Recommend that after the 10th day of practice in Week 3, teams may practice a maximum of 2.5 hours without the required break at two hours.
