A quality education in a caring environment 46 Ogden Road, Oakville, NSW 2765 oakville-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au www.oakvilleps.nsw.edu.au Ph: 4572 3142 Fax: 4572 3822 Dear Parents and Friends Cross Country Congratulations to all students on their enthusiastic participation at our recent cross country. It was a fantastic event and greatly enjoyed by students, teachers and parents, especially our Kindergarten students running in their first ever Oakville Public School Cross Country. Well done to Mr Schubert for coordinating a well-organised event. Congratulations also to our school sports leaders who did a wonderful job organising their respective houses. Thank you to the many parents who attended to support the students on the day. Good luck to all competitors who will represent Oakville Public School at the Ridges Cross Country Carnival on Friday 25 May. fair will be invested into the school to the betterment of all students. The funds raised during the fair will be invested into upgrading the technology in the school, ensuring that our students are provided with the additional equipment that is necessary for 21 st century learners. Please support the Oakville Public School Country Fair, our major fundraiser, which is held every three years. The fair will occur on Saturday 22 September, 10.00am 4.00pm and will be held on the school grounds. Happy Mother s Day Happy Mother s Day to all of the Oakville mums. We hope that you have a wonderful day on Sunday and are spoilt by your children! Thank you to Bree Millett and Daniele Portelli for coordinating the Mother s Day Stall and to the parents who are assisting. NAPLAN (National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy) Testing Oakville Public School Country Fair The organisation for our country fair is now beginning to get into full swing. Thanks to the P&C for all of their efforts so far in organising the fair. Special mention to Bree Millett and Danielle Portelli who have been working tirelessly in approaching local businesses for sponsorship and/or donations. If you own a business and would like to sponsor or donate to our Country Fair, please contact Bree on 0412 087 039. All funds raised from our country NAPLAN testing will take place on Tuesday 15, Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 May 2018. Every year, all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 are assessed on the same days, using national tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. Oakville Public School will not be participating in online NAPLAN during 2018. For more information please visit: www.nap.edu.au. Winter Uniform Transition At the beginning of term 2, children may wear summer or winter uniform to school, depending on weather conditions. From Monday 21 May, all children will be required to wear full school winter uniform, including a school jacket. Multi coloured jackets or jumpers are not part of our school uniform. Sickness As we move into the winter months of the year, many students are more prone to sickness. It is important that if a child is sick that he/she is kept at home and taken to a doctor, if required, as this will greatly reduce the risk of other students becoming sick. If a child is away from school, it is important that the child brings a note or doctor certificate to school upon their return, explaining the absence. Your cooperation with this matter is great greatly appreciated. Mr S Montgomery Principal Sport Report School Cross Country Congratulations to all the children who participated in our Annual School Cross Country last Wednesday. It was an enjoyable day for all involved. The following runners performed particularly well, and received a ribbon at our Thursday COLA assembly last week: Thank you to all the parents who attended our carnival and supported the runners. A big thank you also to all staff who helped set up, pack up and did their bit to make sure the carnival ran smoothly. The cost of the disco is $6 which includes entry, chips and a drink. The event is being held in the school hall and will be fully supervised by Oakville school staff. Tickets can be purchased from the Councillors in the COLA before school and at recess from Monday 21 May. When the students pay they will have their names marked off on a class list and be given a ticket. Students will need to be dropped at the school hall at the designated times and must be collected from the hall by an adult. Students will not be permitted to leave unless accompanied by an adult - older siblings under the age of 18 are not considered an adult. If your child is to go home with an adult other than a parent then they must have written parental permission so that we are aware of these arrangements. All donation envelopes need to be returned to school by Thursday 17 May, so they can be sent to Stewart House in time for the draw. Stewart House / Smith Family Clothing Appeal Today, we have sent home a clothing bag if you would like to donate your pre-loved clothing.
