The Management track at the second stage could include all of the above but especially: Successful completion of the Supervisory Essentials course. KNOWLEDGE OR EDUCATION NEEDED FOR THIS STAGE: High School diploma, or equivalent. Up to one year of library experience or library-related experience (working in a bookstore, etc.). Teaches or assists instructors in teaching basic research skills to undergraduate students Supervises reference desk student assistants KNOWLEDGE OR EDUCATION NEEDED FOR THIS STAGE: The Management track at the third stage could include all of the above but especially: Successful completion of the Hoos Managing the U.Va. Way course. Writes procedural documentation for training staff and student assistants implementation of instruction curriculum Defines policies and collection plans for materials in various subject areas and/or media Plans and assesses programs of instruction for academic departments Demonstrated proficiency with computers and current technology. Core library skills (as noted above); in particular, an aptitude for performing tasks with close attention to detail. Stage one may be customized for specific projects within the Reference and Instruction group. High School diploma. Associate s or Bachelor s degree preferred. A minimum of 2 years of library experience. Demonstrated expertise with Web-building tools. Stage two may be customized for specific projects within the Reference and Instruction group. Anticipates research and instruction needs of users Identifies and responds to curricular support needs Builds and maintains library collections in one or several subject areas KNOWLEDGE OR EDUCATION NEEDED FOR THIS STAGE: Bachelor s degree preferred. A minimum of 3 years of library experience. The Management track at the fourth stage could include all of the above but especially: Successful completion of a U.Va.(or non- U.Va.) leadership development program Analyzes trends and tools in reference services Conducts assessment of methods and effectiveness of reference services, instruction, and/or collections Evaluates online user environment Defines policies and collection plans for materials in various subject areas and/or media Plans and assesses programs of instruction for academic departments KNOWLEDGE OR EDUCATION NEEDED FOR THIS STAGE: Excellent written communication skills. Subject matter expertise in specific disciplines. Bachelor s degree and 4 or more years of library experience, depending on professional credentials. [or] Graduate degree [M.A., M.S., or MLIS degree] and 2 years of library experience, depending on academic and professional credentials.

Stage three may be customized for specific projects within the Reference and Instruction group. Demonstrated proficiency in identifying and implementing evaluation and assessment tools for gauging information literacy.
