1 North Royalton High School PTA General Meeting The general meeting of the North Royalton High School PTA took place on Tuesday, March 7, 2016, in the Community Room. Chris May called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said. Secretary s Report Tricia Stanton stated that the minutes of the February meeting were published online. There were no corrections. The minutes will stand as published. Treasurer s Report It was reported that there was a beginning balance of $15,148.74 and an ending balance of $15,110.74. There were no additions or corrections. The report was filed for financial review. Principal s Report Mr. Yappel attended the meeting for Mr. Osborne. He reported that they are working on adding daily announcements in written format on the website again. Mr. Hemery will be taking a video of commencement this year. He does not take orders ahead of time in case the video does not come out well. If it does, the video will be available to purchase for $15.00. Activities and Counseling Report Job Fair March 10; 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at CVCC. Come with resume in hand and can apply for jobs there. Be prepared to interview that day. Dress appropriately. Parent can walk around with them. Mrs. Schultz s Essentials Chemistry class will be having a gallery walkthrough March 21 st during 1 st period and 10 th period (7:20 or 1:30 p.m.) to show off the artwork. The Blood Drive is scheduled for March 11 th. If students want to give blood, they should see Activities Office before Friday. The Glo-Ro dance is scheduled for Saturday, March 12 th, in the High School Gym 1 at 7 p.m. 10 p.m. Senior Panoramic is Wednesday, April 20 th in Gym 1 at 9 a.m. Big Fish is almost here. Tickets for in-school performance are on sale this week. Shows will be held March 16 th during school. The out-of-school performances are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, March 17 th March 19 th, at 7 p.m., and on Sunday, March 20 th, at 2 p.m. There are 120 kids involved show your support!

2 There is an After Prom meeting on March 10 th in the High School Media Center. Donations are being accepted. If you want to volunteer at After Prom, you need to attend at least one meeting. Yearbooks on sale now. More information is on the website. March 14 OGT Testing for Juniors and Seniors March 16 th Get Set for College; Three representatives from OSU, Akron University, and Case Western Reserve o Geared 8 th through 12 th. Will talk about how they review applications. They will be passing out notecards for questions that will be answered at the end from the three schools attending. March 22 nd there is a CVCC Make-up visit if interested in attending next year; sign up in counseling office o CVCC approval date as to whether seniors are admitted or not admitted into their program is March 24 th. March 24 th is the end of grading period March 25 th April 3 rd is Spring Break. April 5 th is the deadline to turn in your intent form if your student is interested in College Credit Plus. April 7 th AIR testing begins. April 7 th S.T.A.N.D is having a Chik-Fil-A fundraiser April 9th is the ACT Test Chemistry teachers Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Margevicius classes made balloons for their Valentine s activity, making a chemistry treat and creating a chemical reaction to make their balloons. Several teachers attended the Marine Workshop again this year. Jen McFadden Corey Durichko attended the workshop in Paris Island, SC February 23 rd February 26 th. At the workshop they learned about training recruits and saw the discipline and values and training recruits receive. Mr. Nestoff has partnered with Gilmour Academy to work together for the first Robotics Team collaboratively to create a robot. March 17 th and 18 th they will be competing at the Buckeye Regional Competition at the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State. On February 25th Alec Miciunas joined his fellow classmates and teacher for dinner at Cozumel. Alex was presented a new skateboard, skateboard attire and a $100 gift card to a sporting goods store to welcome him back from his medical treatment in Boston. A special thank you goes out to Tri-Star Skateboards for the donation.

3 President s Report: Staff Appreciation is scheduled for April 26 th. Chris will be planning but is requesting assistance. Student Council is sponsoring a Glo-Ro Dance this Saturday. PTA will be providing refreshments and needs a couple of volunteers. The After Prom is open to all junior and senior students, last year there was over 400 students and 75 volunteer parents. If you would like to volunteer, you must attend at least one meeting prior to May 9 th. They are also looking for senior pictures from events, sporting events and school activities. The upcoming meeting dates and contact information are listed in the announcements. Founder s Night: April 21 st in the media center. We will vote under Old Business for our Ohio PTA Lifetime Achievement Award. OFFICER S REPORTS: 1 st Vice President Membership There are currently 398 members. Council Delegates Reviewed what occurred at meeting held this past month. Please review the Minutes of the Meeting under the Parent PTA section on www.northroyaltonsd.org for more details. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Scholarships Tawny Zajc and her committee are reviewing currently. Currently giving six scholarships. Curriculum There is a meeting scheduled for March 22 nd.

4 OLD BUSINESS: 2016-2017 Slate of Officers: We restructured the Craft Fair with committees within the Craft Fair and therefore 2 of the Craft Fair VP Positions remain open. The Committees are: Advertising: Jen Porter Admission/Volunteer Coordinator: Mary Ellen Watrobski Raffle: Lynn Twarog Set Up: Becky Humes Kitchen Co-chair: Open Vendor Lunches: Shirley Berish Based on this support, nominations will now be accepted from the floor for the open positions and the proposed slate of officers for 2016-2017 will be: President: Michelle Yuzwa 1 st VP Membership: Mary Ellen Watrobski 2 nd VP Craft Fair Coordinator: Becky Humes 3 rd VP Craft Fair Co-Chair: Kathy Lineweaver 4 th VP Kitchen: Marie Laheta Council Delegates: Cristina Hornik, Lynn Twarog Alt. Delegate: Tricia Ptak Secretary: Stephanie Weber Treasurer: Lori Krzywicki A motion was made to accept the above slate of officers by Rima Chehade. The motion was seconded by Kelly Tarnowski. The motion carried. Ohio PTA Achievement Award: Our PTA Founder s Night will be held on April 21 st. Candidates for the Ohio PTA Achievement Award may be community members, teachers, staff or a parent who you feel deserves to be

5 recognized for the outstanding job they do and goes the extra mile for our students. We have two nominations this year. A ballot vote will be taken for both. if we accept two, we will need to adjust the budget to pay for two recipients from the high school. Both nominees were accepted with over half the votes (13/21) for both recipients. A motion to fund the second recipient from Contingency line in the budget was made by Kathy Lineweaver and seconded by Tawny Zajc. Motion carried. New Business: We earned about $4,000-$4,500 extra from the Craft Fair. We need to decide what we would like to do the with funds. Items to consider are giving additional senior scholarships, donating money toward the Mascot costume the school is considering purchasing. Mr. Osborne stated that they also need to replace a 3-D printer and an updated TV for the cafeteria for school announcements to improve communication with students. It would have rolling announcements throughout the day. A motion was made by Kelly Tarnowski to add four more scholarships for this year at $500 each, totaling $2,000. The motion was seconded by Maria Rowlett. Motion carried.
