Year 10 Coursework Information Evening

Aims for the evening Ensure all are aware of the coursework (or equivalent) requirements for Year 10 and Year 11. Chance to ask questions regarding coursework, exams and key dates for Year 10 and 11. To give specific information about core subjects

Structure for the evening Mr Smith Year 10. Key messages, references, advice. Mr Baker Fullbrook 6, Maths, English, Science, MFL.

Year 10 Mr Smith Year 10 is about getting the small things right. Year 10 is about showing desire and endeavour to do your best. Year 10 is about being responsible, showing maturity and making good decisions. Good decisions form good habits, good habits form character. Within the next year and a half, character references will be written by Mr Baker and I.

What colleges and employers say A positive reference is as important as good grades. Grades show intelligence, good references show attitude and work ethic. I ve never employed someone with a poor reference. Hundreds of people have good references, why would I take someone without one? Fullbrook has a very good, honest relationship with all local post-16 providers. Our references must be accurate.

A change necessary? A previous student s review. I received over 100 IRIS in Year 9. It was not until joining Year 10 that I realised I needed to change. I reduced down to 10 IRIS in Year 10, then 2 in Year 11 by doing the following: Developing good, basic habits. Arriving to lessons on time, focusing at the beginning of the lesson, showing my teachers that I care, putting more effort into homework. I changed friendship groups to help me improve my behaviour. I avoided social issues and became much happier. All the staff involved with Year 10 and 11 are so helpful, and only want the best for you.

Work Experience Week All students should seek Work Experience. The earlier the placement is arranged, the better. Not formally arranged until the new year. It is a valuable opportunity to soak up all the advice in a field of your interest Making good contacts now can help you in the future It can give a strong focus to do well in Year 10 and 11 through developing a sense of perspective.

Final Thoughts. We are extremely proud of our GCSE Results. These are achieved through a combination of the systems in place at school, but equally as important is support at home, and the students being driven to achieve their potential. We asked all students from Year 11 last year for the two things they wish they could change about their approach to Year 10 and 11, if they had the opportunity. Three most popular answers. 1. Focus in lessons and get on top of coursework earlier 2. Put phone away in the evenings / not worry about social concerns 3. Start revising content on a weekly basis
