INTRODUCTION TO MYON This Self-Directed Learning (SDL) module was created to assist teachers that would like to use myon with students and have not been previously able to attend a live or virtual Professional Learning session (or need a quick refresher). When a school or district purchases myon, typically administrators, teachers, and students are given their unique log in information to access the personalized literacy environment. Often even before teachers have an opportunity to learn about the program, many eager and technology-savvy students begin to read the digital books and news articles. This is not a problem, because the natural first step in any implementation of myon is Independent Reading : If this does occur, when educators learn about myon data that is collected, monitoring student usage, and creating reports, the experience has the added benefit of authentic literacy data from their own students or class. In this SDL, teachers that have existing student data will be able to access those and learn about other features and functionality. For those that do not have students reading on myon yet, this SDL still provides valuable information to get started. Participants will: o View video content as a basic introduction to inform about existing myon resources created to assist educators starting to use myon or wanting a refresher o Explore the Educator Resources available o Practice logging in and using (either in their own account) the myon Faculty Dashboard o Examine available data, reports, and how to browse and search to find specific texts in the collection
